Jeep Questions - What causes a P0113 Code..Intake Air Temperature Sensor High - JustA... Page 2 of 3
Hello, The sensor receives 5 volts from the PCM or computer, it then sends signal back to PCM to make some running adjustments. In you case, the sensor
is sending a high signal. To acurately diagnose this code, a scanner is need to review some sensor and PCM data. Without scanner, there is not a test other
than checking to be sure it is plugged in tight and in most? cases, the sensor is bad. I have not run into a PCM being bad yet but anything is possible. The
sesnor is located on the intake
The 2-wire Intake Manifold Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is installed in the intake manifold with the sensor element extending into the air stream.
The IAT sensor is a two-wire Negative Thermal Coefficient (NTC) sensor. Meaning, as intake manifold temperature increases, resistance (voltage) in the
sensor decreases. As temperature decreases, resistance (voltage) in the sensor increases.
The IAT sensor provides an input voltage to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) indicating the density of the air entering the intake manifold based upon
intake manifold temperature. At key-on, a 5-volt power circuit is supplied to the sensor from the PCM. The sensor is grounded at the PCM through a low-
noise, sensor-return circuit.
Injector pulse-width
Adjustment of spark timing (to help prevent spark knock with high intake manifold air-charge temperatures)
The resistance values of the IAT sensor is the same as for the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor.
SYMPTOM
P0113-INTAKE AIR TEMP SENSOR VOLTAGE TOO HIGH
WHEN MONITORED
With the ignition on and battery voltage greater than 10.4 volts .
SET CONDITION
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor circuit voltage at the PCM goes above 4.9 volts .
