Purpose
To connect the people and organizations of South Florida to build knowledge, skills and resources within our neighborhoods
in order to promote community resiliency in the face of a disaster.
Who should attend? Community & faith-based leaders, non-government organizations, social services, local businesses,
foundations and individuals who want to learn more about disaster preparedness

This training workshop will provide orientation and training of Promotores and Community Health Workers on emergency

preparedness. This session, conducted in Spanish, will emphasize reconnecting chronically ill patients with healthcare serv-

ices after a disaster. The session will include action steps needed to motivate, inform, navigate and empower vulnerable
populations to be better prepared for an emergency. The curriculum will include 7 Core Competencies in a knowledge-
based program will cover the identification of a variety of emergency situations, natural disasters, and determining risk.

Project Reconnect Community Roundtable: 8:00 am – 11:30 am (English)

Project Reconnect is an initiative involving a coalition of community, government, education and corporate partners in the
five gulf coast states of Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida. The goal of Project Reconnect is help communi-
ties ensure that individuals with chronic diseases continue to receive necessary health and medical care when services are
disrupted by extreme circumstance. This session will engage Businesses, Faith/Community-based in a discussion re Emer-
gency Preparedness Issues. Also open to Patient Navigators, Advocates and members of the Southeast Florida Cancer
Control Collaborative.
Emergency Preparedness Workshop for Faith-based and CBOs: 1:30 – 4:00 pm (English)
Doubletree Airport Mart Hotel, Miami
This training workshop will provide orientation and training of Promotores & Community Health Workers from community
and faith-based organizations on emergency preparedness. This session, conducted in English, will emphasize reconnecting

Evening Reception “Promoting Community Resiliency in the Face of Disaster”: 5:30 – 8:30 pm

This reception will connect Community-based Organizations with Emergency Management, Law Enforcement, Fire and
Rescue, Emergency Medical Services, Public Works, Human Services, Mayor’s Office, Consulates. An opportunity for
conversation and informal networking.
