1) Perform Journey Level Work in New Construction/Installations, Maintenance/Testing,

Troubleshooting/Repair of High Voltage Substation Equipment such as high voltage (up to 230 kV)
power transformers and circuit breakers; steel structures, insulators, bus-work, high voltage
switches, disconnects, and fuses; high-voltage and low voltage cables and wiring; substation
batteries and related equipment; operating mechanisms including hydraulic, pneumatic, and other
stored energy systems.

2) Operate Equipment such as boom and bucket trucks, forklifts, aerial equipment, and insulating oil
handling/processing equipment; uses rigging and lifting techniques to install large equipment.

3) Read and Interpret mechanical drawings, diagrams, and technical instruction manuals, and
electrical drawings and diagrams such as wiring diagrams, schedules, elementary diagrams, one line
functional diagrams, and technical information.

4) Understand and follow safety procedures such as high and low voltage safety orders,
clearances/lockout-tagout, system switching, verifications, personnel protective grounding, working
on or around high voltage systems, fall protection, confined space entry.

5) Use Equipment and Tools such as hand and power tools; conduit benders and threaders, cable
pullers; electrical test equipment such as voltmeters, ammeters, ohmmeters, DC insulation
resistance testers, transformer ratio testers, AC and DC high potential test sets, and circuit breaker
testers.

Describe the high voltage electrical apprenticeship program that you have completed. Include a brief
summary of the subjects covered in both classroom and on-the job training, the hours required, and
the company or school that provided the training.

2. Describe the construction projects and your specific responsibilities performed in High Voltage
Power Transmission and/or Distribution Substations.
3. Describe the work and testing that you have performed on High Voltage (4kV to 750 kV) circuit
breakers, and switchgear, including control circuits. Include type and class of breakers, interrupting
mediums, and operating mechanisms.
4. Describe the work and testing that you have performed on large High Voltage power
transformers (10 MVA or larger) used in power transmission/distribution substations and/or power
generating stations. Include work on Load-Tap-Changers, cooling systems, and transformer auxiliary
equipment.
5. Describe the work and testing that you have performed on mechanical and electro-mechanical
systems such as pneumatic or hydraulic control and operating systems, and motors including control
and protection schemes.
6. Describe the electrical insulation system testing that you have performed on High Voltage
equipment used in, transmission/distribution systems and/or power generation facilities. Detail
types of test performed and test equipment used.
7. Describe your proficiency using mechanical and electrical drawings, typically used when working
on High Voltage electrical equipment. Detail types of drawing used and give specific examples.
