Hi Guys!! Seems bit of lull on the Wall. Census Organisation is receiving first reports from all the
Charge Officers (i.e., Tahsildars, Municipal Authorities, ..) from across the country. These are being
compiled. Census Commissioner, India is likely to announce the Provisional Population of India
and all the States on 28 Mar 11.

we will have detailed reports of census much faster than the previous exercises.
The interactive GIS maps for 2001 were excellent. We look forward to more details and GIS maps
to provide information till Village/ Panchayat level. Will it be possible this time?

Census 2011- User
There are reasons to believe that unfair practices have been used to secure more votes for certain
images. It is a matter of grave concern and is being looked into by the RGI Office of India. Results
will be declared only after a thorough inquiry to ensure fair play and justice. The genuine winners
will not be derived of their prizes. Hence, the results will now be declared on 18th of March, 2011.

I have lodged complaint on 1/03/11 and 07/03/11 for non coverage in census2011, but no response
has been received sofar. Isn't it a fake exercise?

In such a massive exercise, it is possible for a few to be missed from a billion plus, which doesn't
really dilute the authenticity of the exercise.

Reuben Dantes It was surprising to see supposedly rational individuals hurl accusations against
each other in the most juvenile manner and completely deviate from the core of this page and the
essence of the contest! As those wall posts appeared, which were not worth commenting on or even
reading, I so wished there was a separate section, wherein they could register their complaints and
indulge in their blame game!!!
I'm glad that henceforth action would be taken against anyone making any comment which is
unacceptable and least expected on an official forum.
Looking forward to the release of the Census Report and wall posts on stuff related to the Census. :)

end of such irresponsible language? What if similar language was used for his/her family members?

Admin i am seeing how Nidhi Jain making fun of voting system.If someone get lead from her she
start abusing her or him by posting wrong words on this wall.First of all she collect sympathy votes

by declaring my friend alok a cheater.Alok who was leading starting get many unsolicited pm's

votes. Most of the p'ple like me..go to certain location to get their best photo for the comptetion.

I wish to know on behalf of citizen of India: When will UID complete to take photograph, IRIS
scan etc. apart from just filling necessary details. How can citizen ensure the enumerators filled
census form correctly without unbiased manner? If the person have problem like lose of hand, eyes
etc. what is the alternative identification taken & how they are identified? If the person could not
enroll his name after UID census 2011 how citizen can ensure that his/her name included in the
census in future? Any permanent office/ helpline etc. Why the children left from UID IRIS scan?

Its not photography contest now,it has become like those who knows more friends those who have
more voters will win :( it doesnt looks like any contest,all the snaps which are very common like
people standing in group and all , they are the topeers and if anyone having two accounts with 5000
friends each in the pro,if he uploads a blank pic then he will get 10,000votes then he will be the
winner,does it make any statements telling its a photography contest and photography the word
have its own meaning and all the pics which are not good will be voted and finally they will be the
winners,its a kind of humiliation which will be done for the photographers i can say,with all efforts
we take some good snaps and we will be looking for one good contest as you asked and just
imagine how we will feel when the best snap or the better one will be trashed out and the bad one
will be victorious,it also discourages the upcuming photographers too,to be frank am not in the
contest for camera

Inflitration in Meghalaya! from the mouth of our Office staff.

JDan DvlBoy It really scares me to hear the story right from the mouth of the office staff who
recently visited some parts of Garo Hills (Meghalaya) dominated by Bangladeshi immigrants. As
said, Ten years back, only about 30 houses of the immigrants were there in a particular area of Garo
Hills, now about 500 plus houses of immigrants are claiming the land of the Garos tribes in the
Border areas. The danger is to an extent that one lady is challenging the tribal people infront of
other Census enumerators/supervisors/staff about enumeration issues.

future. Then, what will happen to our indegineous tribes and the original locals... the future only

The enumeration of the houseless in Delhi took place over three nights- mapping of locations on the
26th by male enumerators accompanied by volunteers from over 50 NGOs working with the
homeless; enumeration of areas heavily populated by the homeless, such as the walled city and the
sabji mandis, on the 27th; and finally enumeration in other parts of Delhi on the 28th. For the first
time, a very large number of women enumerators were part of the exercise; we ensured that they
would work in teams for safety. The photo shows a team of lady enumerators sharing a joke with
homeless day laborers in the walled city area. They worked till the task was over, up to 4 AM!

in your hostel, then you will be enumerated there only. Please check with your hostel admin. From
what I gather, at a lot of institutions the enumerators are at a loss since they are not getting
permission by the authorities. You never know - that could be the reason why they have not come to
you. And if that is so, please convince your admin team to allow the Census from taking place!

JDan DvlBoy @Census 2011: It is very much appreciating that the contest is receiving huge
response. Very well done. But please do make sure that the votes alone are not the major factor in
winning the photography contest. Some points should be considered like the Theme or the idea of
the photograph, the focus & sharpness, the main subject of the photo (like child, tree, enumerator,
flower etc) and the message thats is being convey through the photograph. The reason is that voting
system alone really doesn't prove the winner.
Census 2011 @JDan: Don't worry on this. We have always been communicating that both the
criterias of votes and the relatedness of the photo with the theme will be kept in mind before
deciding on the winner.

amenities, about the assets you own, economic activity, migration.... The possibility of any drastic
change in this information is quite unlikely over a short period of time. Moreover, the Census is a
massive exercise with almost 25 lakh people involved and costs the government almost Rs. 6000
crores. Hence, it makes most sense to conduct it every 10 years. :)
Govind Jha Rs.6000crores is not less,it can be utilise more if conducted after 20 years.since
population clock is already operational.
Debashis Chowdhury This census exercise may not be required in future if the UID project is
successfully implemented. The UID database could then act as source of Census data.

Census 2011 @Vishwa: We really appreciate the fact that you are using your right of speech to
express your views, however, on this public forum, everyone has to follow some ethics. If you will
really scan all the conversations that have happened on our page, you will come to know that we
have responded every sort of query( positive or negative) with full dignity. The fan count of close to
11,000 over just 8-10 weeks is a testimony of that.
However, one thing which has remained consistent is that No one has spoken in a language which
you have chosen to speak with. It is really sad that educated people like you are taking this platform
for a ride. Please note that we do have an option of blocking/reporting you for using such language
but we are open to address each and every query of yours and are not shying away from your non-
welcome posts.We have also come to know that you used the power of your position in the society
to abuse our enumerator which is strictly against the law and severe action can be taken against you
for the same. Please do understand that there will be shortcomings in any process which is on such a
massive scale. We are here to take LIVE feedback from the citizens and hence take action at the
earliest. Your enumeration is again an example of that.
It is really good on your part to take that effort of getting yourself counted. Not many people do
that. Our enumerators work very hard to try and capture the maximum information possible even
after facing so many difficulties. Our enumerators are not even allowed to enter the homes, they are
considered salesman and are shooed away at the entrance, people let their dogs chase them. To
make any initiative of such scale, co-operation is needed from the society.

brother's building. Just spoke to one of them. The person whom i spoke to was taking it as ajoke. Is

the campus so the enumerator has crossed through the locality to reach there... the contradiction
is.... that I am counted at my home after calling up the DG's office and asking for the complaints
that enumerator teams submitted for noon-cooperation from the area... there are no complaints that
are submitted by enumerators till date for non-cooperation...
Carishma Ahluwalia Gill It's also ironic that the enumerator cannot do her/ his work on the
premises without the principal's permission. That would be called trespassing, and he could be
arrested for the same. At the same time, the Census team should be stricter - under the Census Act,
people who refuse to cooperate can be either fined or jailed upto three years. But they don't do this -
guess its about time they start exercising this penalty. I'm signing out now - I don't think I want this
negativity seeping into me.

the hard work the team must have put in, there is nothing one can do about personal responsibility
or motivation. It's things like these that puts off the general public from government initiatives. But

enumerated. Very few people will spare their valuable time and patience. It is pathetic to see people
shun from their responsibility and not taking it seriously. These are the few black sheep of the
society who bring bad reputation to the other Enumerators, Supervisors, Charge Officers and all
those who really are working hard, day and night, to make this Census a successful one. And thanks

last now I can say I am counted. But I would have been happier if it was done with out any
complaint. Also this needs to be simplified for those who can Under stand and fill the form, there

system of tracking the complaint??? Or it is easier to hide behind the words and loopholes that you
have for shielding your... incompetency and frustratingly corrupt system that does not want to do
the job but wants higher salaries and bribes too...

Carishma Ahluwalia Gill Vishwa: please calm down! Unfortunately a lot of us feel that way
towards government initiatives. And this particular page seems to have really helped bridge the gap
between the Census team and the public. Just look at the other posts and the responses we have
received from the Census team. A lot of other people have actually been very happy with the way
their feedback has been taken. So many Enumerators have actually landed up promptly after a
complaint on Facebook or the helpline number. The team's effort of leveraging a social network to
promote awareness/ information as well to ensure maximum coverage - seems to have been quite a
success.
I'm sure there will be lots of people like you who would not have got counted. But please
understand how massive this exercise is and how much of en effort it has been. The chances of
errors are obviously there. But that does not mean that we loose faith in the system. That's the worst
thing that we can do to not only the country, but also to ourselves. We can't possibly be a part of
this country if we don't have faith that things will definitely get better soon.

i really liked the idea of a detailed census. it is very essential to assess in exact terms, what needs to
be done for the future of the nation. but im concerned of the fact that it is not being carried the way
it should be. they are covering more people but they are lacking on getting all details. the
enumerator that came to my house just spent 5 mins, asked a couple of general questions & told that
he will fill up the rest accordingly himself. if this is the way its been done then it will only prove a
waste of both money & time. i think the government should instruct strictly, all its enumerators to
pay more attention towards their job, if the government doesnt want it to be just a formality.

I HAVE A SUGGESTION:
As all know that there is unemployment problem in our country. So why can't jobless people be
given the work of enumerators???
Because I am observing this things very closely since my father is a Supervisor for Census
2011,and it becomes very hectic for working people who are doing enumerators jobs.
It is not impossible to set the job as enumerators for jobless,but yes it can be a problem without
proper administration and governance!
My intention is not to hurt any body and their thoughts,its only my suggestion for a better India.
The work that is going on is really great and fabulous,its a big process and is being carried very
well by Census 2011 team.

trusted and respected. Teachers are opinion leaders and Indians are more likely to trust a teacher
with confidential information than an unemployed person.

Reuben Dantes Teachers are known to be responsible and are highly respected in society. This
makes them the best enumerators, much more suited for the task than other government officials.
However, if I'm not mistaken, apart from teachers, local government officials also assist in the
Census. :)

Malviya Nagar, but it is possible that your home has not yet been covered. This is especially likely
if you are a tenant whose landlord has told the enumerator that there are no tenants, which happens
quite often. We are undertaking a special check for this purpose from 1st to 5th March in Delhi.

The Census is primarily an exercise to gather statistics/ data of the population of the country at a
given point of time. Therefore, everyone found in the country at the time gets enumerates.
Nationality not withstanding. As a result, foreigners visiting the country get counted, while Indian
citizens not present in the country at the time, do not get counted!

was given a complaint number, but no person visited at our building till now and 4 families are not
counted. Called up the toll free number to know the status of the complaint and the person at other
side told "Wait till 28/2/2011, when the census will be over. You will be counted after then"..

shit in the demography will not be effected for a decade atleast..! thats y its conducted with a gap of
10 years.. and conducting it every 5-7 years is a huge burden on the govt. the primary requirement
of a census is that we be able to formulate policies for the society studying the statistics. now for a
5-7 years.. the statistics wont change on a large scale and could normally be predicted by statistical
methods unless a drastic event like a famine or epidemic breakout.
but i really liked the idea of e census...!!!! analysing the results would be very much easier and les
tedious...!!!!

What happens after the enumeration is over? The Enumerator prepares a summary and reports the
total population, total population in the 0-6 years age group, number of literates by sex of the
Enumeration Block. These are then collated by sub-district, district, state and then the Country. On
the basis of this first compilation the Census Commissioner, India declares the provisional
population of the country and the State within three weeks.

This is very very essential as an individual citizen of india to give census information in unique
place even if u are working any where in public sector units. The Indian Census began in 1872 and
it is the largest source of statistics on the people of India. It brings out statistics every 10 years. For
scholars and researchers, the Indian Census is an interesting data source.
The census is available on various subjects: Population, Economy, Finance, Literacy, Sex ratio etc.
There are sub topics in each subject, which deal with specific issues of that subject. IMR Rate, Birth
Rate, death Rate in Population, Workers in Various sectors, Male Workers Female Workers, etc, in
Economy, Female Literacy, Male Literacy in Literacy and so on.
This is the only channel with which we can get easily census data without any mistake, there by
educating people of india

hello. just had a query about the photo competition judging criteria. does it depend on the number of
votes? i mean, since the last date of submission is 7th march, the person submitting the photo near
the deadline would obviously get lesser votes!

this is regarding the STRENGTH IN NUMBERS CONTEST..

according to the rules the picture with the most number of "LIKES" wins the contest
...but due to the same criteria many other contests of different companies/organizations had to take
their contest back and relaunch them WITHOUT LIKE requirement to make the contest unbiased
and fair..
REASON : the reason behind it is really easy to understand.. the person who wants to win the event
with "LIKES" go for many unfair means like :
-FAKE PROFILES
-PAYING MONEY FOR "LIKES"
-SOMETIMES HACKING
-INTERNET DOWNLOADED PICTURES
-OTHER ILLEGAL SOURCES

2nd place now with 230votes and my friends are getting confused to vote as 2 of the same snaps are
there in my name and pic is the same too,it was a hacking thing which happened when i was in
class,so i request you to remove my HACKED pic which has got some 47votes even though its
from my own id they have uploaded my friends are voting for that snap which is making me struck

...it did not cross 1000 mark...but only yesterday i noticed that it almost close to 8000...i m so

what kind of census is this?
The BBMP Bangalore representative comes to our house with a list of names to be enumerated.
These Names exclude all Muslim/Christian/Gujarathi Households in our area. Since we are not on
his list, we are not counted. We live in the same house for 40 years and still, they come with a
filtered list. Politics are being played by the state govt. in this exercise. Please do something about
this.

six codes, individuals are also given the option to write the full name of their religion. In a diverse
country such as ours, there are scores of belief systems, and it is only for convenience that codes are
assigned to the Top Six Religions (based on data collected during the previous census). If a person
does not fall under any of the six codes, he or she definitely has the option to write the full name of
his religion or mention that he does not practice any religion.
The Census deals with an unbelievable amount of data, and coding only simplifies this process. :)

its not easy to ask both the questions, as some of them are not required to answer, by each and every
person in family, 29 questions, multiply by number of members and convert them into code, it takes
around 20 to 30 minutes, while We have to cover 177 families, within our routine work, time limit
is 28th February, Still hoping for accuracy in data, god bless to census 2011.

We have been handed over photocopy of the census form. It is such a poor copy that I can hardly
read it. Have been asked to fill and give to the guard of our apartment. I read the form on the
website and tried to fill it but found it difficult. It is not just about my household but about the entire
apartment and probably the entire locality. Should the enumerator not come to each house? I want
me and my family to be counted. What should I do? Secondly, we have about 10 guests staying
with us for a few days. Do I count them too? If yes, there is space only for 8 persons in the
photocopy form given to us.

Reuben Dantes Hey Sakshi, I really don't think that the Census authorities mandate the use of
photocopies. But some enumerators, make photocopies of the original forms and hand them over, as
they believe it saves time and makes work easier. However, I do understand your concerns and the
increased scope of errors in such a method.
And about not having space, you can surely take another photocopy of the same form, and enter in
the other names. But, that depends if you do want to include your guests.
I'm quite unsure. At least, I wouldn't have got them counted at my home, especially since they are
only over for a few days. Also, I'm not quite sure, how would you answer the migration and
distance to work details for them. Logically, if you do include them in your form, you could also be
possibly misleading the Census authorities to believe that more than 8 persons live at your home.

citizens.

shall be covered under census 2011. Its their fundamental right to be counted as Indian National,
wherever in the world. If the govt. doesnt have the machinery to execute it, it shall be put in place.

Dr-Sandeep Kadwe Reuben, till today no one considered NRI (holding Indian passport) as part of
Indian society and economy, what a pity. And now Hon. PM is suggesting to give voting rights to
NRIs. How? If they are not even included in the census? The finance ministry is eagerly waiting to
bring NRIs under tax net, which will prove to be counterproductive. I think there is no consistant
policy for NRIs at all.

As an Enumerator, everyone is facing this type of difficulties in the field, but we are collecting
information, eventhough we are being insulted by somebody.
But I wanna say to people,"pls give your genuine information with patience. then only enumerators
complete their work intime & govt also know the exact status of our citizens.

I am Tanuja from Andhra pradesh. I went to one person house to enumerate his family details. when
I asked him for his place of birth, he scolded the government officials with unparliamentary
language. I waited for a bit, & told him with a peaceful face that this information is useful bcz most
of the people are gng to towns for delivery bcz lack of facilities in village area. ours is also village
& there is no hospital. Our officials will know this fact & provide such facilities where there is
requirement. he convinced with my explanation & tell all the information.

unemployement or underemployement ? . Appreciate census is very gender senstive ,we like to

Carishma Ahluwalia Gill Sakshi, same thing happened with me, unfortunately. Speak with the
enumerator when she comes to collect the form, instead of handing it to the guard. That way she
will need to come and tell what she has written. Alternatively, the form is available on the
censusindia website. If you scroll on this page, you'll find the link in lots of posts. You can use that
form as reference to ensure that the information you are giving is as per the questions in the form.
wrt to the guests, they should ideally be enumerated at the place they are currently residing in, since
they will miss their enumeration at their own residence. The enumerators have forms which are
carry-forwards so more people can be listed.
Ranjit Singh Deol the form has to be filled in original and is signed by the respondent. so
enumerator has to talk to the resposible family member who gives the information. All the guests
staying for the whole period of 21 days i.e. from 9th feb to 28 feb have to be enumerated at host

It is impossible to get through the toll free number to tell them that we are 10 days away and I still
have not been counted. Secondly the landline gets picked up and the babu/bhaiya gives me another
number to call. I call that number and the second babu/bhaiya while chewing tobacco tells me if you
r from gurgaon then call the Haryana number and I make him understand my problem to which he
tells me "abhi tak nahi aya to kya hua, 28th mein toh abhi bahut din hain". When I inform him that I
will not be available for a few days he says "20th ko phone kariyega". I have done my bit to ensure
that I get counted.

Census 2011 As we have got an overwhelming response for the contest, the moderator will take
anything between 12-15 hours to have a look at your photo. You will be notified as and when your
photo gets approved/rejected.

Carishma Ahluwalia Gill Priyanka, suggest you go through the form and check out the questions.
Your image should fall under any one of them. And don't forget to give your justification of how
your image relates to the Census! Looks like there must be so many random images being
submitted, that they have to be strict about entries! But if you feel you are good with photography,
make sure you participate :)

I love the initiative of the photography contest.
i dont have a budget to buy one SLR camera and i have entered almost 35 contests online.
i am unable to upload a pic through my facebook account.kindly fix the site issue.

Eid -Milad Ul Nabi is being celebrated across the country with joviality and religious fervor today. The Census
team happily wishes the same to all our dear friends.

Census enumerators have been to my apartment bldg & stuck a small stamp at most doors who have been
enumerated. But wonder why they have'nt bothered to revisit my flat ( both me & wife are at work in the day);
or at least they could make time to inform us of their next visit.!
