3 REFERENCE LINES
The aircraft stations diagram shows five major components of the aircraft drawn in relation
to their respective reference planes.

These components are:

- Fuselage - shown in side elevation and plan

- Wing - shown in plan
- Vertical stabilizer - shown in side elevation
- Horizontal stabilizer - shown in plan
- Power plant - plan detail

3.1 REFERENCE LINES

Reference lines are defined by a system of coordinates each identified by its applicable
zone number.

The following system of coordinates is used:

100/1 Fuselage
300/1 Vertical stabilizer
330/1 Horizontal stabilizer
400/1 Power plant
500/1 Wing

3.2 FUSELAGE SYSTEM

The fuselage system of coordinates is the reference system for all other systems of
coordinates.

The fuselage system is defined as follows:

X-Axis
The datum of the x-axis is located 1.500 m in front of the fuselage nose cone.
The x-axis is horizontal and parallel to the fuselage centerline (CL).

Deminsion & Area
Y-Axis
The datum of the y-axis is the fuselage center axis.
The y-axis is horizontal and at right angles to the fuselage centerline (CL).

Z-Axis
The datum of the z-axis is located 2.500 m below the fuselage center axis.
The z-axis is vertical and at right angles to the fuselage centerline (CL).

4 STATIONS
This section provides information on the datum lines and frame/rib station numbers.

4.1 DESCRIPTION

4.1.1 Fuselage Stations (x - axis)

The location of the fuselage datum line is forward of the fuselage nose and identifies the
datum from which all the longitudinal positions are measured. These positions, which
continue toward the tail, are designated fuselage stations (STA) and are located in the
aircraft with a number which shows the distance of the position in mm from the fuselage
datum line, which itself is numbered STA0.0.

4.1.2 Water Lines (z - axis)

The water lines (WL) are horizontal planes measured above a theoretical datum line.

4.1.3 Buttock Lines (y - axis)

The buttock line identifies a vertical plane (centerline) which divides the aircraft into two
equal parts. All the lateral positions (BL) are measured parallel to the left and right of the
centerline. The centerline itself is identified as BL0.0.

4.1.4 Wing Stations

The wing stations (WS) are located with a number which shows its distance in mm from the
wing centerline. The WS0.0 corresponds to BL0.0.

4.1.5 Vertical Stabilizer Stations

The zero reference datum point for the vertical stabilizer stations (VSS) is at the
intersection of WL2500 and STA17050. The VSS are at right angles to the vertical tail.

4.1.6 Horizontal Stabilizer Stations

The horizontal stabilizer stations (HSS) are parallel to, and measured from, the buttock line
of the aircraft. The HSS are numbered from HSS0.0 (buttock line) to HSS3073 at each
stabilizer tip.

5 ZONES
Zone data are provided to facilitate maintenance and planning for the location of work
areas and components. The aircraft is divided into eight major zones which are numbered
from 100 to 800 in increments of 100. Each major zone is subdivided into major sub-zones.
As an example, the landing gear is located in major zone 700 and
the left main landing gear and doors are designated zone 721.

The eight major zones are identified as follows:

100 lower fuselage

200 upper fuselage
300 stabilizers
400 power plant
500 wing LH
600 wing RH
700 landing gear and doors
800 doors.
