Transmission System architecture
Standard transmission rate is STM-1 – via an Antenna
electrical or optical baseband interface – with Varying from 0.15 m up to 4.0 m in height, the antenna incorporates the feeding system for
the option to upgrade to carry protected both dual- and single-polar operation. Marconi can assess, design, implement and maintain

eight STM-1 signals can be transmitted via
one antenna. Outdoor Unit (ODU)
The compact ODU is connected to the IDU via a single coaxial cable up to 300 metres long.
Automatic Transmit Power Control (ATPC) There are three ODU types: the high-performance ODU S for best system gain and best
ensures the use of the lowest possible spectrum efficiency (XPIC), the ODU LX and the ODU L. The following table shows the

Protection
Various protection systems can be
implemented to meet the critical network
situation, such as 1+1 hot-standby, 1+1 line
protection and 1+1 baseband interface
protection. The availability and quality of the
transmission link can be further increased via
space and/or frequency diversity.

Management
Simple connections are made, via the STM-1 Section Overhead (DCCr or DCCm), the LAN interface (Q3, OSI or IP) or the QD2 interface, to
Marconi's ServiceOn Access integrated network management system.

Using the DCCr or DCCm, the radio system automatically searches for, and establishes, the shortest path and the necessary redundancy to
maintain reliability under fault conditions. The open OSI protocol stack and the integrated multi-protocol stack (OD2, OSI and TCP/IP) allow
adaptation on any SDH multiplexer or integration of any SNMP-managed equipment. This provides the radio with a simple plug-and-play
management solution, powered by ServiceOn Access – the comprehensive end-to-end network management solution which serves Marconi's
Access portfolio.
