Section A : Reading
Read the following extracts and answer the questions :
The Circus Elephant
What are they thinking ?
The circus elephants,
As they tramp round the ring each night.
Do they wish that they
Were far away
In the forest’s leafy light ?
Where they’d roam at will
And could eat their fill
Far from human right
As the gentle giants
Perform their tricks
The children stare with delight
But is it fair?
Is keeping them captive right ?

- John Forster

Read the given passage and answer the questions that

follow:

A fairy tale is a fictional story that usually features characters (such as fairies,
goblins , elves, trolls, witches, giants and talking animals.) and enhancements
, often involving nearly impossible events. In modern times, “a fairy tale
ending” refers to a happy ending, though there are examples of fairy tales
that do not end happily.

In cultures where demons and witches are seen as real, fairy tales are told as
legends having historical actuality as in epics like Iliad or Odyssey. However
they usually do not contain references to religion and actual places, persons
and events; they take place “once upon a time” rather than in actual times.

Fairy tales are found in folk tales and in literary form. The history of the fairy
tale is difficult to trace because only the literary forms have survived. Still the
evidence of literary works at least shows that fairy tales have existed for
thousands of years. The name “ fairy tale” was first given to them by Madame
d’Aulhoy.

The older fairy tales were intended for an audience of adults as well as
children. The Brothers Gimm titled their collection . Children’s and Houshold
Tales, and the link with the children has only grown stronger with time.

Folklorists have classified fairy tales in various ways. Among the most notable
are the Aarne Thompson classification, and the morphological analysis of
Vladumir Propp. Other folklorists have interpreted the tales significance, but
no school has been definitely established for the meaning of the tales.

III) Advertising is the action of calling something to the attention of the public
especially by the paid announcements. This is an important definition because
many people think of advertising mostly in terms of selling manufacturer’s
consumer goods, toothpaste, soaps etc. There has been various
misconceptions about working advertising. Advertising always has a
questionable image-high for little expertise, big expense accounts , lavish
launches and a high degree of superficiality. Today any career in advertising
whether with agency, advertisers, market research company or media owner
or media, is tough and challenging. It demands trained informed scientists
who can work within strictly defined disciplines. The needs of different types
of advertisers vary enormously with the result that it is difficult to generalize
about company organization. Brand managers, Marketing Managers or
communication managers tend to be selected by manufacturing companies
and one often recruited to a marketing training scheme. Each brand manager
is responsible for the total marketing policy for a given brand and for its
implementation. Brand managers have some knowledge of every stage of the
marketing process from research and production to distribution and
promotion. Their process and their success depends on a sound marketing
training and good communication with specialists inside and outside the
company who must be briefed and whose recommendations have to be
evaluated. An advertising agency applies its skills across a range of variety

products and advertising problems. It offers much more problems than an
individual advertises. But it is not a secure job. If the budget is cut drastically
a number of jobs suffer. But the objective remains the same to provide
