Installing the HN7000S remote terminal
This chapter explains how to install a HN7000S terminal and
register it for service.
The following topics are discussed:
• Attaching the terminal to the pedestal base on page 11
• Disabling web browser proxy settings on page 12
• Configuring your computer’s TCP/IP settings on page 15
• Connecting component cables on page 25
• Testing the connection between the computer and terminal on
page 26
• Registering the terminal for service on page 29

Attaching the terminal Refer to Figure 4 and follow the steps below to attach the remote
to the pedestal base terminal to the pedestal base.

Note: Use of the pedestal base is optional.

If you need to remove the DW6000/DW7000 from the pedestal

base so that you can reuse the pedestal, pull up and back on the
tab on the back of the base. See Figure 4. You can then slide the
base off the terminal.
Skip to Disabling web browser proxy settings on page 12 if the
unit will not be attached to a pedestal base.
1. Position the remote terminal and pedestal base as shown in
Figure 4.
2. Align the bottom set of ventilation openings on the remote
terminal with the guides on the pedestal base.
3. Gently slide the remote terminal into the pedestal base until
the remote terminal locks into position.

Note: If you need to remove the HN7000S terminal from the

pedestal base, pull up and back on the tab on the back of the base.
You can then slide the base off the terminal.

CAUTION
• Do not connect the power supply to the HN7000S
terminal and a power source until instructed to do so.
• Do not block the terminal’s ventilation openings. Do not
place the terminal near heat sources, such as radiators,
heat registers, ovens, stoves, or other components that
produce heat.
• Leave approximately 6 inches of space around the top
and sides of the terminal to ensure proper ventilation
and avoid overheating.

Disabling web browser The web browser on your computer must be configured not to

Completing the upgrade
This chapter discusses tasks that must be completed after you
install and register the HN7000S terminal.
The following tasks are discussed:
• Confirming the terminal’s software is current on page 37
• Accessing myHughesNet.com on page 39
• Printing the System Information page on page 41
• Creating a shortcut to the System Control Center on page 44

Note: At this point, the HN7000S can access the Internet.

However, the HN7000S is still also downloading software.
Therefore, wait about 2 hrs before completing the upgrade,
starting at Confirming the terminal’s software is current on
page 37.

Note: If you are not able to access the Internet and your service
I
plan provides you with a public IP address, use the information in
Appendix A to check if you need to reconfigure your Windows
TCP/IP settings for a static IP address.

Confirming the Complete these steps to confirm the HN7000S terminal’s

terminal’s software is software is current:
current 1. Open a web browser on a computer connected to the

Configuring Windows network settings
manually for static IP address
If your service plan provides you with a public IP address but
does not enable DHCP, or if DHCP is enabled on your HN7000S
but does not seem to be working, you must configure your
Windows TCP/IP settings manually or you will not be able to
access the Internet.
The instructions for configuring a Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, or
XP system with a static IP address vary slightly. Find the
appropriate instructions for your system and follow them.
Remember the values in the screen captures are only examples.
You manually enter the following information to configure your
Windows operating system’s settings:
• IP Address. You need a unique, valid IP address for the
computer connected to the HN7000S. If you later connect a
network to the HN7000S, be sure that none of the computers’
addresses conflict with the address assigned any other
computer in the network. You can obtain the entire range of
available addresses for use with your HN7000S from the
Frequently Asked Questions section of the System Control
Center.
• IP Address Subnet Mask. This is the subnet mask assigned to
your terminal. It is available on the System Information page
of the System Control Center in the LAN1 Subnet Mask field.
You would also have written this on the Quick Start Guide
during registration (where it would have appeared in the
Terminal Subnet Mask field).
• Default Gateway. This is the IP address of the HN7000S and
is available on the System Information page of the System
Control Center in the LAN1 IP Address field. You would have
also written this on the Quick Start Guide at the end of
registration.

Safety – operating In addition to the warnings and safety guidelines listed in this
conditions for Canada document, the following operating conditions apply to the
HN7000S remote terminal used in Canada:
The Canadian Department of Communications label identifies
certified equipment. This certification means that the equipment
meets certain telecommunications network protective operational
and safety requirements. The Department does not guarantee that
the equipment will operate to the user’s satisfaction.
Before installing the equipment, users should make sure they are
permitted to connect to the facilities of the local
telecommunications company. The equipment must also be
installed using an acceptable method of connection. In some
cases, the company's inside wiring associated with a single line
individual service may be extended by means of a certified
connector assembly (telephone extension cord).

Appendix B • Conformance with standards and directives

1037076-0001 Revision B 59
The customer should be aware that compliance with the above
conditions may not prevent degradation of service in some
situations.

Repairs in Canada Repairs to certified equipment should be made by an authorized

Canadian maintenance facility designated by the supplier. Any
repairs or alterations made by the user to this equipment, or
equipment malfunctions, may give the telecommunications
company cause to request the user to disconnect the equipment.
Users should ensure for their own protection that the electrical
ground connections of the power utility, telephone lines, and
internal metallic water pipe system, if present, are connected
together. This precaution may be particularly important in rural
areas.

CAUTION
Users should not attempt to make such connections
themselves, but should contact the appropriate electrical
inspection authority, or electrician, as appropriate.

Electromagnetic This product conforms to EMI standards of the U.S. FCC,

compatibility (EMI) Canadian CSA, and European Union (EU), as detailed in the
following sections. The installation and maintenance procedures
in the installation and configuration guide must be followed to
ensure compliance with these standards.

CAUTION
This is a class B product. In a domestic environment this
product may cause radio interference in which case the
user may be required to take adequate measures.

FCC Part 15 Standards to which Conformity is declared: FCC Part 15

This device complies with part 15 of the FCC Rules.
Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this
device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device
must accept any interference received, including interference
that may cause undesired operation.

telecommunications network protective, operational and safety
requirements as prescribed in the appropriate Terminal
Equipment Technical Requirement Documents. The Department
does not guarantee the equipment will operate to the user's
satisfaction.

Note: This equipment meets the applicable Industry Canada

Terminal Equipment Technical Specifications. This is confirmed
by the registration number. The abbreviation IC before the
