How do I study in my own time, aside from work in-class and with Giacomo?
Use the textbook, which provides:
= Workbook
- Grammar appendix
- Glossary unit by unit.
Use the coursebook, which provides:
- Useful vocab and expressions to use when communicating in Italian on the topics of
the week,
- Charts, activities and tasks done in class or that you can do with a study buddy.
Use the Canvas module resources. In every week’s module you will find:
- Flashcards to help you with vocab and verbs: learn from flashcards, practice and test
yourself!
- Amleto the clever cat is a good self-testing resource too
- Extra resources provided to scaffold your learning
Each week, go over what has been done in class from your textbook and the
coursebook, cover on your own what has not been covered in class, and make sure
you have done all the activities in the module.
Work with your classmates to practice Italian as you learn it and make studying
more fun!
How long do the online activities take?
The time you spend on In Italia con Giacomo, travelling from Aosta to Palermo
through the cities marked above, will depend on what Kind of learner you are and on
your use of resources and language strategies. It can vary from 4 to 5 hours per week,
and each week it is best to pace yourself to one section per day (1-hour ca.) over 4
days. Times may vary and this is the advantage of the flexibility that blended learning
allows you: you learn at your own peace, in your own choice of setting, unrushed. We
provide as much guidance as we can, the rest is up to you. Instead of 4 hours per
week in class, you spend two in class and the rest you do at your pace. But don’t treat
is an extra: it is essential that you put as much commitment into it as you would in a
class setting.
