HISTORY OF TARGET PROGRAM
The
seeds
of
TARGET
were
sown
by
the
Wernham
West
Centre
for
Learning,
Upper
Canada
College
in
2002
with
the
initiation
of
their
3:00 – 3:45
Research
Institute,
using
action
research
as
a
method
of
informing
and
improving
professional
classroom
and
program
practice
at
the
College.
Welcome
In
2003,
other
boys’
schools
were
invited
to
join
the
Institute
and
by
Erica Sprules
2004,
the
Toronto
Boys’
School
Coalition
Action
Research
Group
was
formed.
In
2006,
they
printed
Ask
Me!
About
My
Action
Research,
a
Introduction of Keynote Speaker
collection
of
action
research
projects
focusing
on
boys’
education.
In
Stephanie Arnott
2007,
the
Action
Research
Group
gave
poster
presentations
at
the
International
Boys’
Schools
Coalition
Conference
in
Toronto,
and
in
Keynote Speaker
2008,
several
members
presented
their
research
in
workshops
at
the
International
Boys’
Schools
Coalition
Conference
in
Boston.
In
2009,
Dr. Shelley Stagg-Peterson
educators
from
girls’
schools
were
invited
to
join
the
group
and
it
was
renamed
the
Toronto
Action
Research
Group
for
Excellence
in
Teaching
“TEACHERS LEARNING TOGETHER
THROUGH ACTION RESEARCH”
or
TARGET.
In
2010,
teachers
and
administrators
of
single
sex
programs
from
the
Toronto
District
School
Board
joined
the
group.

the
School,”
"A
Survey
of
Children's
Literature
for
Elementary
Classrooms”
and

English."
One
of
her
many
research
projects
is
“Teachers
Learning
5:00
Together,"
funded
by
the
Elementary
Teachers
Federation
of
Ontario,
with
Larry
Swartz
and
Kathy
Marks‐Krpan
as
co‐investigators.
Dr.
Stagg‐ Closing Remarks
Peterson
initiated
a
peer‐reviewed,
online
journal,
the
"Journal
of
Leslie Anne Dexter
Classroom
Research
in
Literacy"
(JCRL),
which
showcases
teachers'
action
research
in
their
classrooms.
