The Indian healthcare market was estimated at US$ 35 billion in 2007, and has been witnessing
double digit growth rates in recent years. However, this growth is largely fuelled by demand
from major cities. India’s healthcare system is paradoxical - on the one hand, it boasts of ‘best in
class’ healthcare delivery attracting medical tourists from across the world, and on the other, it is
characterized by a near absence of accessible, affordable quality health services for a large part
of its population. Existing infrastructure, especially in smaller towns/ rural areas, is inadequate to
meet the ever-growing needs of the Indian population. Less than 10% of the population is
covered under health insurance, and India has less than 1/3rd doctors per capita compared to
China, and almost one hundredth compared to that of USA.
Adding infrastructure and medical professionals alone will not be able to solve India’s huge
unmet needs in healthcare. It needs to be supported by technology. An effective and innovative
use of medical technology, supported by ICT, has the potential of increasing access, significantly
reducing the burden of disease and the load on healthcare delivery services through early
diagnosis, better clinical outcomes, less invasive procedures and shorter recovery times.
Currently, the market for medical technology in India is small, but rapidly expanding. It is
nascent and highly fragmented with limited indigenous manufacturing - imports constitute over
75% of the estimated US$2.75 billion market.
As medical technology industry continues to be one of the most vital and dynamic sectors of the
World economy and a leading force in the revolution that is transforming the health care system.
This revolution is improving patient outcomes and speeding recovery time while reducing
overall health care spending.
With innovation at its heart, the focus of the Alfa Corpuscles is to manufacture and sell very
high quality, disposable equipment for medical use, in stringent quality environment, conforming
to international standards and make them available at competitive prices for the emerging and
underserved markets such that the reuse of these devices is curtailed to ensure patient and health
worker safety and to prevent the spread of infections.
OBJECTIVE:
The objective of Alfa Corpuscles Pvt Ltd is to work across a variety of innovative medical
devices, in the disposables field covering various specialties such as minimal access, urology,
gynecology, thoracic surgery, IVF, Orthopedics and other large volume general medical
disposables.

currently available meshes and to know how a new product can rectify those problems. The
problems with the mesh could be technical specification of the mesh, cost of the mesh and
availability of the mesh.

• To understand the market potential for a new product (mesh) in the Market.
• To know the surgeons opinion of the Mesh that is currently available in the market.
• To understand the market potential for a new product (mesh) in the Market.
Descriptive method of research will be used for this project report and the primary data will be
taken into consideration for the source of this project titled “The Demand Analysis of Hernia
Mesh in Karnataka”. The primary data needed will be collected by preparing well structured
questionnaires.
SAMPLING TECHNIQUES:
SAMPLE SIZE: This refers to the number of items to be selected from the universe to
constitute a sample. Out of the total population 100 respondents were chosen.
The collected data was subject to qualitative and quantitative analysis. The findings
would be presented in the form of tables and graphs for better understanding and
interpretation will be reported at the end of each study .
