on weight in children, because children are
more sensitive to fluid depletion and excess
than adults.
4. When reviewing the information on Merck
website, I learned that neonates are at risk
of dehydration because they unable to
signal thirst effectively and to replace
losses voluntarily.
5. The web site provides patient education
that includes meal plans, children’s health
and general health and also has a portal to
speak to a live representative and how
dehydration usually is due to diarrhea and
remains a major cause of morbidity and
mortality infant but however over
hydration may be as devastating as
dehydration.
6. The Merck sit also discussed how infants
lose more fluid through the kidneys
because immature kidneys are less able to
conserve water.
7. The website also discuss the different
parameters assessed for monitoring
electrolyte imbalances (egg; central venous
pressure, serum electrolytes, hemoglobin
and hematocrit) in neonates and factors that
decrease fluid intake and increase fluid
loss.
