BACK
Note: This section of the shawl is a pie shaped wedge that creates a curve from the left shoulder of the
Shawl across the Back. You will do this section (Rows 1-50) a total of 4 times. If you have small shoulders
3 times may be enough, but if you have wide shoulders, add another one or two of these. Try it on before
you decide.
Please lay out 24 stitch markers; you will need them all for this section.
Note: If you are familiar with short rows, the markers may not be necessary. Be aware that you
are wrapping ever other st. I did the markers for less experienced short row knitters.

Row 1 (Double Short row): K10; slip next st as if to purl, bring yarn to the front, TURN;
Slip first st as if to purl, K10, TURN;
Knit across to within 3 sts of marker, slip next st as if to purl, bring yarn to the front, TURN;
Row 2: Place a marker on the right-hand needle (this is the neck edge of the shawl).
Slip first st as if to purl, knit across all the sts to the very end of the shawl where the ruffle is.
Rows 3-46: Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 22 times; you will have one marker remaining and have used 23 of
the 24 markers that you laid out at the beginning of this section.
Row 47 (Short row): K10; slip next st as if to purl, bring yarn to the front, TURN;
Row 48: Place last marker on right-hand needle; slip first st as if to purl, K10.

Note: You are now back at the ruffled edge of the Shawl. On the next row, you are going to deal with all
those wraps and wrapped sts. I know this may seem like a lot of trouble, but it produces a much neater
transition between the long line of wrapped stitches and the next row.

Work wrapped stitch and wrap at the base of that stitch as follows:
Slip the wrap that is at the base of the wrapped stitch, as if to purl (do this by inserting the right-hand
needle from the top of the wrap to the bottom), then slip the wrapped stitch, as if to knit, now insert the
left-hand needle into the front of these two stitches and knit them together. This is called work the
wrapped st in the instructions of the next row.

Row 49 (Right side): K11, remove the next marker, * K1, work the wrapped st, remove the next marker;
repeat from * across to within 2 sts of last marker, K2, slip last marker, K2: 61 sts.
Row 50: Knit across.
Repeat Rows 1-50, 3 times; this is a total of 4 times. Don't forget to lay out your 24 markers for the
other repeats of this section.
RIGHT SIDE
Row 1 (Short row): K10; slip next st as if to purl, bring yarn to the front, TURN;
Slip first st as if to purl, K10, TURN;
Knit across to within 2 stitches of marker, SSK, slip marker, K2: 60 sts.
Row 2: Knit across.
Rows 3-82: Repeat Rows 1 and 2, 40 times: 20 sts.
Row 83: Knit across to within 2 sts of marker, SSK, slip marker, K2: 19 sts.
Row 84: Knit across.
Rows 85-112: Repeat Rows 83 and 84, 14 times: 5 sts.
Bind off all sts in knit.
