Today’s Railtour is the first passenger service to enter the Weardale Railway
from the national rail network in 2011 which marks a further milestone in the
history of the Weardale Railway.
Your journey today will take you from the busy town of Bishop Auckland, through
the beautiful Weardale countryside to Stanhope. Overleaf you will find details of
the route including mileage, crossing names and bridge numbers.
At Stanhope you will enjoy a 3 hour break and we would like to invite you to
spend this time visiting our shop and café. The town centre is a short walk from
the station and maps will be issued by our stewards.
We have arranged for a special bus link to operate from Stanhope Station to
Killhope Lead Mining Museum – please let our stewards know if you would like
to take this service as seats are limited (£6.50 per person, includes bus link and
admission).
“Collector’s Corner” the Junior Club fund raising stand, offering railway items
such as GNER branded glassware, crockery, WR ties and railway signs can be
found on the main station platform. Funds raised will support the club which is
open to young people aged 10 to 17 years.
Stewards from the Weardale Railway are on-board your train today for the
journey from Shildon to Stanhope and back, and are happy to answer any
questions that you may have about the Weardale Railway. Our book “Rebirth”
which illustrates the history of the railways in Weardale and the efforts of the last
15 years, is on sale at Stanhope Station priced £5.00
We hope that you enjoy your visit today and look forward to welcoming you back
in the future.
