April is
National Poetry Month!
April is National Poetry Month

April 4, 2011

April is National Poetry Month in the United States. And we, at Scribd, want to
celebrate the many amazing poets that we are lucky enough to have in our community,
as well as the poems that are on Scribd.

We love the Scribd Community and the amazing content that you add to Scribd. All
month, we will be Readcasting, featuring and promoting poetry from the National
Poetry Month: Community Collection. So add your poetry! You can learn how to add
your document to a moderated collection here. This is also your chance to get your
hands on an awesome Scribd t-shirt, as I’ll be sending one to the author of the Scribd
Staff favorite poem.

Not everyone is up for writing poetry. Not a problem! Explore all the poetry that Scribd
has to offer. Publishing house Farrar, Straus and Giroux has put together an amazing
collection of poetry: “Celebrating National Poetry Month.” Check out excerpts of
books of poetry such as “Human Chain” by Seamus Heaney, “Taller When Prone” by
Les Murray and “Every Riven Thing” by Christian Wiman.

Alfred A. Knopf is also celebrating National Poetry Month with some fantastic poems.
Read poems such as “Hillside Streaming By” by Maxine Hong Kingston or “The House
Was Quiet on a Winter Afternoon” by David Young. Knopf will also be uploading new
poems exclusively to Scribd, every Monday!

Continue your reading adventure with poetry legends such as Maya Angelou and
William Shakespeare, or read poetry from famous writers not known for poetry, such as
Henry James. And those examples are only from writers with birthdays in the month of
April. Imagine what you can find if you explore!
