Perioperative nurses are attracted to the idea of a stimulating, challenging and exciting
work environment. They have well developed communication skills, are flexible in their
approach to their work and are interested in keeping abreast of the latest developments
in surgical technologies.
The Perioperative training opportunities offered at St John of God Hospital Subiaco will
help you gain the skills and confidence to nurse in this area.
Nurses are paid at their substantive level (or the highest level 1 increment for existing
level 2 and above nurses) whilst undertaking all St John of God Hospital Subiaco courses.
Graduate Diploma in
Perioperative Nursing
This 12 month program for Registered Nurses is affiliated with Fremantle Hospital and
University of Notre Dame (UND). The aim of this program is to provide a supportive
environment where Registered Nurses can become competent perioperative nurses.
Participants are employed at St John of God Hospital Subiaco for 54 weeks, subject
to their satisfactory academic progress as detailed in the course curriculum.
Participants are also enrolled as a student at UND. Participants are employed under
the St John of God Healthcare Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA).
All surgical specialties are covered, excluding cardiac surgery and trauma.
Both adult and paediatric surgery is performed.
Rosters are flexible including early or late shifts. The operating room, recovery
and anaesthetic teams contribute towards an on call roster. There are opportunities
for permanent full time, part time and casual caregivers with operating rooms
functioning Monday to Saturday.
