Love conquers all things – except poverty and toothache – Mae West
Queen’s Park High School has a long
and proud tradition of providing
opportunities for excellence in Music,
Drama and Dance. This year’s
spectacular has a cast of over 100
students. Mr Yeoman, Head of
Recreational and Performing Arts said
“Feedback from the last two
productions was overwhelming; we
were bowled over by comments that
the shows were as good if not better
than professional productions. We
have set ourselves a very high
standard which we hope we can match
this year; we think this might be our
best ever performance”. The show is a
musical set on an intergalactic star ship
and draws its musical inspiration from
the 1960’s and 70’s, featuring songs
such as ‘Wipeout’, ‘Great Balls of Fire’
and ‘Gimme some Lovin’’. Tickets are

on the beat
with Police Community Support Officer
Jo Pendrey

Local policing priorities have been set following engagement with the local community
and based on information fed back at surgeries held with local residents.
• Parking problems causing congestion outside Overleigh St Marys School on the Old
Wrexham Road, normally as a consequence of school pick ups and drop offs.
• Frequent patrols of Duke’s Drive after recent reports of anti-social behaviour.
• High Visibility and reassurance to be provided around Schools and College to deter further
thefts of bicycles.

Local Priorities for December 2010

• You said – High Visibility and reassurance to be provided along Dukes Drive and Green Bank
Woods due to reports that people are drinking in the woods potentially causing Anti Social
Behaviour.
We did - High visibility patrols continue to take place along Dukes Drive and Catholic High
School playing field. A number of youths have been spoken to and advised of their behaviour
with some youth’s being moved on from the area. These areas will continue to be a priority for
patrol.
• You said –. Parking problems causing congestion outside Overleigh St Marys School on the
Old Wrexham Road, normally as a consequence of school pick ups and drop offs.
We did – Recent communication received from the School Travel Group has confirmed that
new bollards will be erected along part of the Old Wrexham Road leading to Catholic High
School in the new year. This will stop parking along the road and ease congestion. Further
measures have been discussed to resolve the issues along Old Wrexham Road during school
pick up and drop off times.
• You said – Edgars Field Park and Playground
Continuance of high visibility and reassurance patrols within Edgars park and playground due
to anti social behaviour problems that have occurred during previous months.
We did – Edgars Field Park and Playground
Local residents have raised concerns over the playground that was completed earlier in
the year.High visibility patrols have taken place during the last month and there has been a
reduction in occurrences of youth’s congregating in this area with fewer calls being made to us
by members of the public.
The next Community Action Meeting will take place on Thursday 24th February at
7:30pm at St Mary’s Church Hall.
A local Surgery is held in your area every 3-4 weeks with myself and your local
Councillor. The surgeries are held on the bench opposite The Ship Inn public house
by the Old Dee Bridge. Please feel free to come along for a chat.

If you have any questions or see me on patrol please feel free to stop and chat or
alternatively contact either myself on 0845 458 6375 or by e-mail

I wouldn’t want any woman who’d have me as a husband – Mark Lamarr

RECIPE
Pan Seared Cod with Shrimp
and Cabbage & Bacon
Serves 4
Ingredients:
1 large fillet of cod
1 lemon
100g fresh shrimps
Chopped parsley
250g of unsalted butter
2 tablespoons white wine vinegar
6 diced shallots
50ml of whipping cream

Ingredients for
Cabbage & Bacon
1 Savoy cabbage
4 rashers streaky bacon
20g unsalted butter
2 diced shallots

Method
1. Cut bacon into 1 cm strips, fry until crisp in a little olive oil. Add diced shallots.
2. Shred the cabbage, put in a pan with the butter and a dash of water. Cover with a lid
and cook for 2-3 minutes until soft. Then add to bacon and shallots.
3. Place a frying pan onto the stove and heat, add some olive oil
4. Place the cod skin side down and turn down the heat – this should take 6-7 minutes to
cook
5. Whilst the fish is cooking, place the shallots into a pan with the vinegar and reduce by
half. Then add the cream, and slowly incorporate the unsalted butter. Finally, add the
shrimps and parsley, and heat gently.
6. Next, place the cabbage and bacon onto a plate and turn out the fish on top of the
cabbage and bacon, add the lemon juice, and then spoon the shrimps around the edge.

Chef’s Tip
When pan-frying the cod, if it manages to stick to the bottom of the pan do not panic; tilt the
pan slightly on its side and the steam from the fish will help to release it.
