1st Annual Drinkolympics - Urbanest, Sydney 2011

Rules

SECTION I: PARTICIPANTS
I.1.- There is no fixed number of participants. The final number will be agreed
upon after people show serious interest in competing.
I.2.- The participants will be representing their respective countries (or state
s or towns, in cases in which a country is overrepresented). The usage of nation
al colours or kit of any sort (ie: flags) as a “uniform” is greatly encouraged.
SECTION II: FINANCING
II.1.- According to the not-for-profit spirit of the event, participants will ha
ve to finance the alcohol to be consumed in the course of the competition.
II.1.- Rule II.2.- notwithstanding, donations destined to help pay for other asp
ects of the event, such as decorations, will be accepted.

II.3.- The amount of the fee in which participants will have to incur (hencefort
h known as “Booze Money”) will be defined after the number of participants has been
determined (see rule I.1.-). Booze money will not be refundable if a participant
fails to show up for the competition.
SECTION III: LOCATION & ORNAMENTATION
III.1.- The competition will take place at the courtyard (henceforth known as “The
Venue”), so civil behaviour is to be expected of participants at all times during
the course of the event. Participants are to help keep the venue in semi-decent
condition at all times.
III.2.- A Subcommittee will deal with the ornamentation of the venue for the ev
ent. In the (unlikely) event of there being any booze money left, it will go to
help pay for decorations.
SECTION IV: COMPETITION
IV.1.- The event is designed as a strict drinking affair, so it will not include
any contests of skill (ie: drinking games).

IV.2.- The event will be comprised of two main phases: The Drinkathon (hencefort
h known as “Phase 1”) and The International Standoff (henceforth known as “Phase 2”).
IV.3.- Phase 1 will include all the players at the same time, and will act as a
qualifying event for phase 2. In it, the participants will have to drink their w
ay through a list of drinks varying in intensity (the complete list has yet to b
e defined, but it should follow a beer-wine-spirits pattern). All the players to
complete the list will pass automatically to phase 2 but, barring common sense,
they have no time limit to do so. All participants will have the possibility of
skipping one of the drinks featured on the list (they will be required to let t
he referee know which drink they are not taking).
IV.4.- Phase 2 will be comprised of all the participants that successfully compl
ete phase 1. It is designed as a last-man-standing competition in which all par
ticipants will be required to produce a typical drink of their country of origin
, then to specify the quantity and way in which it should be drunk each round (a
ll participants are required to present their prospective drinks to the Standard
ization Subcommittee so that they are roughly equal to each other). Phase 2 will
continue until either a) there is only one participant standing (see S. V), or
b) there is no alcohol left. The winner/s of the competition will be whomever is
/are still standing after both phase 1 and 2. Participants are not allowed to sk
ip drinks in Phase 2.
SECTION V: DISQUALIFYING FACTORS
V.1.- Participants will be disqualified from the competition if they fail to kee
p drinking after an idle period of more than ten (10) minutes, if they cause any
sort of problem with the venue’s administrative staff, or if they are unable to e
ngage in semi-rational conversation (ie: passed out or close to).
V.2.- Vomiting will not be a disqualifying factor unless it leads to any of the
instances described in rule V.1.-.
SECTION VI: PRIZES
VI.1.- Due to the not-for-profit spirit of the event, there will be no monetary
rewards of any kind to the winner/s of the event; participants are expected to c
ompete for personal honour, national pride, and major bragging rights.
