• They are a closed community who live in


“isolation” on the farms.

projects that can financially change their lives.

• A Sewing Project was started and the speciality


being City of Harare uniforms and protective
clothing.

• The project is intended to be an on going business

• It has kicked off using funds contributed by the local


community.

• To grow faster they need support for two years.

• City of Harare is the key target.

• The City of Harare and the project members.

• Women dominate the project membership

• Most of the men are employees of City of Harare and are


actually the sponsors of the project through their spouses.

• This will operate as an independent group.

• Took part in the Agricultural Show displays.

• Displays of project items (protective clothing)

Ceremony as a marketing strategy to the City of
Harare.

• Samples of uniforms have since been supplied to


City of Harare‟s purchasing department.
Approaching the City Council to purchase from
this group.

• Alleviation of poverty through sales of items from the
project.

society through financial independence of women.

• Empowering of a woman is empowering the whole


family through education of their children and the
welfare of the family.

• It is effective. At the 2010 Harare
Agricultural Show. Items ranging from

shirts, trousers, children‟s dresses,


aprons and hats attracted 1st Prizes.

• City of Harare has actually indicated their


desire to purchase uniforms and
protective clothing from the project.

• The demand of protective clothing is
monthly or annually.

LESSONS LEARNED
• That the disadvantaged members of the community
when empowered can grow out of poverty.

• Women family contributions are immense and


equally contribute to the country‟s fiscas.

• Formal education is not everything people can earn


a living through using own hands.

• They are self driven.
