SPEAKING LESSON PLAN

Time: 15min.
Level: Intermediate
Age: Adolescence
Materials: pictures,cards,holiday board
Interaction: T\Ss, Ss\ Ss
Assumptions: Students know giving suggestions,agreement-disagreement and
talking about past.
Anticipated problems: Students may speak in Turkish during the group activity
and may not want to talk about their memories.

Pre-speaking

Time: 3min.
Materials: pictures
Interaction: T\Ss
What students do: The students answer the teacher’s questions. They talk
about the pictures on the board. They also talk about their last holidays.
Grouping: Whole class
Aims:
- To create a good athmosphere for learning.
- To motivate the learners.
- To attract their attention to the topic.
- To get the students to participate in lesson by asking some questions
about their lives.
- To get learners to warm up.

Steps
1. The teacher and the learners greet each other.
2. The teacher puts some pictures on the board and asks ‘ What do you think
about these pictures?, ‘Is there any common thing among them?’ , or ‘ Is
there a relation among the pictures?’
3. After getting the responses she asks ’Do you like summer holidays?, ‘Have
you ever had an adventurous holiday?’
4. After collecting answers she asks ‘ Do you want to make your summer
holiday plan?’
While-speaking

Time: 12min.
Materials: cards
Interaction: Ss\Ss
What students do: The students work with their group members and try to
plan their holiday by using holday maze cards .But while doing this they have to
discuss each option with their group members,give some suggestions and come to
an agreement.After they have come to the end they will tell how their holiday
was and tell their reasons about why they chose that option. There isn't one
'correct' answer - different groups find themselves going on different holidays

Grouping: groups of six

Aims:
- To encourage learners to communicate with each other and listen to each
other.
- To create a communicative athmosphere in the class.
- To make learners use the functional language with an enjoyable activity.
- To get their attention.

Steps

1. The teacher divides the class into groups of six.


2. The teacher wants them to work with their group members and gives
them a set of holiday maze cards.
3. The teacher tells them that they will go on a holiday but they have
different options. They have to discuss each option and come to an
agreement. After that they will tell their holiday to the class.
4. The teacher checks the instruction.
5. The teacher asks them to say what kinds of expressions they can use
while giving suggestions,agreeing, disagreeing. And writes them on the board.
6. She gives learners 5 mins.
7. During the activity, the teacher walks around and listens to the groups
and checks if they have any difficulty.
8. Then she makes them to tell their holidays to the class.
Post-speaking

Materials: holiday board
Interaction: T\Ss
What students do: The students prepare a holiday board with their photos and
talk about them,tells their holiday memories.
Grouping: Individual students
Aims:
- To practice what the students have talked about.
- To talk about their experiences.
Steps
1. The teacher shows a sample holiday board to the students.
2. The teacher wants them to prepare such a board,bring to the class and talk
baout their holidays.
