over the PU department’s move to
bring admissions in various colleges
under one umbrella, the state gov-
ernment has given a decent burial
to the proposal.
Last week, the education depart-
ment officials asked their PU coun-
terparts to drop the proposal. Sources
in the education ministry said,
“There has been severe pressure from
the private college managements
who are opposing it. Moreover, we
have told PU officials not to pursue
the plan as the existing system is
running smoothly.”
As per the proposal, colleges
were to be selected as nodal centres
for selling application forms. A stu-
dent could submit one application
form with a list of preferred colleges
and subject combinations. This sys-
tem would have benefited both the
