APPLICATIONS AVAILABLE FOR 2011 GREAT GENEVA NEIGHBORHOOD CHALLENGE

March 25, 2010- The Geneva Neighborhood Resource Center (GNRC) announced today that
applications for the 2011 Great Geneva Neighborhood Challenge are now available. The Great
Geneva Neighborhood Challenge is an annual pride building competition for the city’s
neighborhoods in which groups of neighbors can apply for funding to collaboratively improve their
properties.

Working together, neighbors will improve the physical condition of their homes through activities
such as painting, landscaping, porch repair, or the installation of exterior lights, mailboxes or house
plaques. It is expected that each project will include four to six homes and monetary awards will
generally range from $2,000 to $3,000.

The main components of the Challenge are: physical improvements to a group of homes,
completed by participating neighbors and community volunteers during one or more weekends this
summer; events, such as a block party, created by the participating neighbors to celebrate the
work done; and a banquet in the fall to showcase the projects and recognize participating
neighbors for outstanding improvements, collaborations, and events.

GNRC staff will help residents through the application process. City of Geneva residents can learn
more about the Challenge by visiting the GNRC, located at 105 Seneca Street in Geneva, or by
visiting www.genevanrc.org.

The Great Geneva Neighborhood Challenge is funded through private sponsorships, participating
neighbors, volunteer and participant labor, and donated materials. This year’s sponsors include
First Niagara Financial Group, Lyons National Bank, Five-Star Bank, Finger Lakes Health, In. Site:
