carry out a part of the study as a summer job.

SUITABLE BACKGROUND OF STUDENTS

We believe that a suitable background is Master students in environmental studies and/or physics, chem-
istry. An interest in industrial development and global operations is an advantage.

BACKGROUND
The discussion of the port industries environmental impact has intensified. According to survey done be
ESPO (European Sea Port Organisation) noise, air quality and energy consumption are among the top
priorities.

During 2007 Bromma launched the GreenLine™ concept. The new GreenLine™ product family is a more
environmental responsible spreaders. Bromma has always been the most innovative company in the
business, and in order to take the lead also in the environmental area, we need to cooperate with the
best experts in this field. To take the lead in the environmental area we need to cooperate with experts.
What actions are needed to make it possible for Bromma to communicate Greenline in a broader per-
spective?

Bromma is a part of Cargotec. Cargotec is focusing on identifying product-based environmental per-

spectives. In product development, environmental considerations form an integral part of planning and
manufacturing. Key focus areas are energy efficiency, safety and the prevention of oil leakages.

The most significant environmental effects associated with Cargotec’s own processes are related to those
originating from the operations of the various business units as well as transportation and commuting to
and from work. The certified ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 quality and environmental management systems
form the basis of Cargotec’s environmental management.

Cargotec has set the target to reduce the use of fossil fuels by 10 percent in its equipment over the next
6-10 years.

PURPOSE
The purpose of the study is to identify areas to be addressed in order to reduce the global environmental
footprint from the use and production of a Bromma spreader. As a first step a mapping of various aspects
on environmental impact must be done. Areas to be investigated should include:

The environmental impact

• from using a Bromma spreader
• of materials used in a Bromma spreader
• of the production process

The study shall also include an investigation of raw materials and ingredients used in parts, cables, paints
etc.

The work will be executed as a thesis work for Cargotec Sweden AB, Bromma Conquip. The work will be
executed On-site in Kista. Tutoring and support will be provided by Cargotec employees. Compensation
