El siguiente esquema representa los cuatro módulos principales que componen un STI:
-Multimedia: los nuevos medios (imagen, sonido, animación, video) como materiales de
enseñaza permiten que representar información que no podría ser representada de forma
textual y éstos múltiples medios de comunicación permiten aumentar la motivación de los
alumnos. Estos medios son incorporados a la interface del sistema. Además de la tecnología
multimedia, actualmente existen distintas metodologías especialmente diseñadas para el
desarrollo de interfaces multimedia inteligentes, tal es el caso de la IMMPS
(http://www.dfki.uni-sb.de/imedia/lidos/papers/csi97). Diariamente nos encontramos con
estos sistemas en la escuela. Podemos citar como uno de estos ejemplos al programa sobre
Interculturalidad llamado Babylon, creado por Edulab de la Universidad de la Laguna
(www.edulab.ull.es).
