Introduzione

TEST no. 2
1. State the definition of a holomorphic function and analytic function in an

open set. Determine if

z − z̄
|z|( )

is holomorphic. Prove that if f is an holomorphic function then the Cauchy-

Riemann condition fx = −jfy holds.

2. Compute:
1 − cos πz
Z
dz
γ z 4 − 16

where γ is the counterclockwise circle of radius 4 and center the origin.

3. Solve the following difference equation:

yn+2 − 2yn = u(n − 1)

y0 = −1, y1 = 0

State all the properties used. Prove one of them.

4. Unilateral Laplace transform of the unit step function: proof and its ROC.

Consider L[u(t − 4)] and find its ROC; then list the properties of L[u(t − 4)]

in its ROC and prove one of them.

CAPITOLO 4. EXAM TESTS 53

5. Draw and derive 2 times in the distributional sense the signal x(t) = t[u(t +

1) − u(t − 1)]. Is the signal a regular distribution? Is the first derivative a

regular distribution? Justify the answers.

6. Compute X(ω) = F [Π4 (2t − 4)]. State those properties of the Fourier

transform used in the computation and discuss the properties of X(ω). Prove

one of the fundamental formulas of Fourier transform.

7. Compute lim Π2n (t − n) in the distributional sense. State the definition

n→+∞

of D 0 .

8. The Fourier series of the signal x(t) defined as the periodic replication of

x0 (t) = π − |t| (−π ≤ t ≤ π) is:

+∞
π X 2
+ (1 − (−1)n ) cos nt
2 n=1
n2 π

By using this result, compute the Fourier transform of the signal x(t).

EXTRA Question. Let f (z) be analytic in the whole plane and assume it has

a nonessential singularity at z∞ . Show that f (z) is a polynomial.
