Dear Parents
The children have had a wonderful week full of “big top” activities. They were all truly
inspired by the author visit on Monday and have all produced some fabulous creative
writing. The highlight of the week for me was “Breakfast with Books” – what a great
sight – children and parents sitting down together to enjoy a hearty breakfast and a
good read! Thanks go to Miss Phillips for organising the week and especially to Mrs
Norton-White for her extended Breakfast Club ! Sarah Nisbett – Headteacher

EASTER HOLIDAYS 11th APRIL – 26TH APRIL 2011

RETURN TO SCHOOL WEDNESDAY 27TH APRIL 2011
Big Top Book Week 2011
Author visit Monday 14th March
The morning started with KS2 in the hall listening to Antony Lishak, our famous visiting author, share
his work. Antony showed the children some of his books and discussed how he drew on personal
experiences to create stories. The children and staff were engaged and entertained the whole time.
As the children left the hall with their story telling task explained there was a real buzz of
excitement about creating their own stories. Foundation Stage and Key stage 1 had an equally
engaging and hands on experience of telling stories. These children used Antony’s book Clickety Clack
Something to Pack for follow up work.

During the afternoon Antony visited children during their writing tasks and shared helpful author
tips. Then, at 2.45p.m, we were joined by parents in the hall to celebrate the fantastic work the
children had produced. After which Antony stayed and met with parents, selling signed copies of his
books.

It was an inspiring and motivating day for all involved and there were definitely more than a few cases
of authoritus !

These opportunities greatly enrich the curriculum and children’s experiences of work and real life.
However there are always financial implications of booking such visits and currently we have only
received donations to cover half the costs for this day. If you have not made a donation please
consider sending your donation to the school office as soon as possible - Many thanks,

Scholastic Book Fair 2011

Thank you to all those who visited the Scholastic Book fair this year and bought items from the great
selection of books on offer. There were definitely some favourites! We took £615.15 which means
the school has £373.74 to spend on books and resources. This is always a huge bonus and supports
some tight budgeting – thank you. Finally, thank you to all staff who have volunteered this week to
help out with various events - special thanks to Mrs Watt and Mrs Astle our Book Fair Stars 

Carol Phillips, Deputy Head and Literacy leader
