-How do you explain about adat law? Adat law is “Unwritten law established by long usage among particular
locality or district which it exist”.

-What is the position and role of Adat Law in Indonesian legal system? Adat law in Indonesian legal system is
become one of important part in making national constitution, because Adat law is considered as one of law that
approved and recognized in society.

1) Does Custom the same as Adat? Does all of customs become Customary Law? Yes, It
does. No, because customs which become Customary Law should be able to fulfilled pre-
requirements.

2) What is the meaning of Adat? What are pre requirements of Adat becomes Adat Law?
Adat is kind of habit that become repetitive tradition. The requirements of adat becomes an
adat law is when this habit is become repetitive tradition, and accepted by locality or citizen
which it exist.

3) How Van Vollenhoven explains about Adat Law, and how does the development of Adat
Law at this time? Each district in Indonesia has variative adat law. Adat law is still
developing in the modern times. Adat law can be developed by certain habit that become
repetitive among the society.

1) The forms of law are in written and unwritten forms. What is the form of Adat Law? Adat Law is categorized as
an “Unwritten Law”

2) Is Adat Law system the same as Continental European legal system (Civil Law)? No, it isn’t. Civil law is derived
by codified western law.

3) What are the similarities and differences between Adat Law system and the legal system of Anglo-Saxon
(Common Law)? The similiarities between Adat Law and Anglo-Saxon system is both of them are unwritten law
derived from the traditional law or traditional usage. The differences is common law developed by judicial dence
etc. Meanwhile, adat law is developed by tradition that always growing in citizen.

4) What is the nature of Adat Law? Adat law nature is tradition.

5) What are the sources of Adat Law? Adat law sources are mainly from tradition and believes that accepted by all
citizen in particular locality.

6) What is the universal principle of Adat Law? Adat law basic principle are believes that become a tradition.

C).What is the role of Adat Law in the development of the Indonesian national law? Adat law is considered as one
of main part in the development in Indonesian law, because it is already use in the citizen in a long terms,So the
citizen could recognize, and obey them easily.

Adat law is unwritten law that accepted in citizen in particular district. Adat law is already used before any
other laws exist.

Adat law is considered as one of unwritten law. Because it has already used in long terms, people in
particular district or local could recognize and obey about the existence of adat law easily. Each district in one
country usually doesn’t have the same adat law. Adat law is having an important part in developing Indonesian law
because it is play an important rule in the citizen and have been used in a long terms.
