The 4th annual Mindful Leadership Competition hosted by LIBA University of Dayton was held with 130 students registering. Ms. Shaan from Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, Pune won first place. Ms. Parul Behl from Ramjas College, Delhi and Mr. Hari Shanker R from Govt. Engineering College, Trivananthapuram were the first and second runners up. The competition focused on empowering women entrepreneurs in India and provided the winner with a trip to the University of Dayton in the United States.

Trivananthapuram emerged first and second runners up Chennai, Mar 17, 2011: The fourth edition of LIBA - University of Dayton’s - Mindful leadership competition 2011 themed on “Empowering Women Entrepreneurs: Wake-up call for India Inc.” was successfully held today at LIBA campus with 130 registrations. Ms. Shaan, Symbiosis Institute of Media & Communication, Pune emerged as the sole winner and Ms. Parul Behl, Ramjas College, Delhi and Mr. Hari Shanker R, Govt. Engineering College, Trivananthapuram as the first and second runners up respectively for the national level contest. As a part of their dedicated effort in providing quality and value-based education with a strong emphasis on ethics and corporate social responsibility, LIBA and UD joins hands annually in organizing this competition. The contest scheduled to run for two complete months includes 3 stages such as Registration and Abstract; Full Essay submission and Oral Presentation and invites entries from all full-time bona fide undergraduate and graduate students of accredited education institutes, colleges or universities across India. From the 130 entries received, 50 were shortlisted for the next level from which 10 best ones made entry to the final stage. The jury panel consisting ofMs. Anuradha Parakkat, Director, Corporate Affairs and Student Mentoring, SRM University, Ms. Clara D’Silva, President, Korcomptenz Inc, Mr. Ashok Thomas, CEO, Adroit Public Relations Pvt Ltd announced the Winners of Mindful leadership Competition 2011 post evaluating the confidence and presentation skills of the finalists . The winner of the competition who received The Mindful Leadership Rolling Trophy for her institute along with an all-expense paid trip to the United States to visit the University of Dayton, in her presentation, on the given topic highlighted that for women to become entrepreneurs, support, guidance and help from the people surrounding her is needed. Great people do not just become great because they were born to do so, but because the people who were with them were great enough to let them be what they are today. The winner also gets to spend time on campus, work side by side with faculty of business, engineering and technology and participate in a program custom-tailored to the winner's academic interests. The winner also received the opportunity to explore international study options with the University's top-ranked Center for International programs, attend classes, meet faculty and talk with students from all over the world and explore studying options in U.S. Besides this, cash prizes and other honors were awarded to second and third place winners. Talking on the selected theme and contest, Fr. Christie, Director, LIBA, said,” “Principle 6 of the United Nations Global Compact exhorts business enterprises to eliminate all forms of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation. It is extremely important to encourage women entrepreneurs and bring them into mainstream arena so that they are recognized for their work and contribution to the corporate and entrepreneurial world. I am pleased that this year’s Mindful Leadership offers a distinguished platform for the younger generation to come forward and reflect on this vital issue and to leave us with thought- provoking insights on the development of aspiring women entrepreneurs in India.” Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mathew Shank, Dean of the University of Dayton (UD), said, By focusing on ways to enhance women's participation in the workplace and marketplace, the entrants in the Mindful Leadership Competition have demonstrated the important contributions women can make towards a more just, economically vibrant future for all. I look forward to welcoming the winner to the U.S. and to our campus and hearing first-hand their ideas for greater women's involvement in the business world." With the nation celebrating International Women’s Day every year and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MCA) making mandatory for companies to have one among five of their independent director as a woman and UPA government making efforts to reserve 1/3 rd of the seats in Parliament/ Assembly for women this year, India is indeed waking up towards empowering women. On this and many more and with the intention of capturing the views of the young Indian’s, Mindful Leadership Competition 2011 quite aptly succeeded in sharing commendable views on how businesses in India can unleash the potential of women and actively promote their rights and well being for the comprehensive economic growth for the country.
