Baking Bread

1 - I baked us some bread today.

2 - Really? I love to eat bread fresh out of the oven.

1 - Well, we can have some as soon as it cools off a little. It’s too hot right now.

2 - How did you make it? Can you teach me?

1 - It was easy, but it took a long time, about 4 or 5 hours!

2 - Why is that?

1 - Well, once you mix the ingredients, you have to let the dough rest for a first rise in a
warm place. That takes about 2 hours.

2 - Why does it take so long?

1 - The yeast has to do its work. Once it has risen, you have to pour it onto a floured
board and knead it. After a second rise, the bread can be shaped and baked. Would you
like to taste it?

2 - Sure! I am hungry! Where’s the butter? Do you have any jam?

New and Old Clothes

1 - We need to buy winter clothes for the kids.

2 - You’re right. It’s getting cold and their clothes from last winter are too small.

1 - We should donate them to a thrift store, since we won’t be using them anymore.

2 - OK - Let’s look in our closets and see what we will donate and what we’ll keep for this
winter.

1 - Jonathan is 10 now. I see his size 8-9 pants no longer fit. We’ll have to go get him the
next size up. I’m guessing a size 10-12 should fit him now.

2 - Right. And Susan’s winter jacket is too small now too. She will need a larger one.

1 - She’s wearing women’s sizes now. She’ll probably need an XS women’s jacket.

2 - Yes. And I think she’s a size 4 ladies’ pants size now. These size 14-16 youth pants
are too small.

crianças.)

(Jonathan agora tem 10 anos. Vejo
We’ll have to go get him the next size up. I’m
guessing a size 10-12 should fit him now. (Precisamos ver um número maior para ele. Acho que
tamanho 10-12 deve ficar bem.)

2 - Right. And Susan’s winter jacket is too small now too. She will need a larger one. (Certo.

1 - She’s wearing women’s sizes now. She’ll probably need an XS women’s jacket.

2 - Yes. And I think she’s a size 4 ladies’ pants size now. These size 14-16 youth pants

1 - Jonathan has moved up from a size Large children’s shirt to a size Small adult t-shirt

Pequeno adulto nas camisas. E a Susan também.)

At the Gas Station

1 - I’m confused. I have never pumped my own gasoline before. You don’t seem to have
full-service here. Now what do I do?

2 - Well, pumping your own gas is easy. I work here and I would be glad to show you how
to do it.

1 - Thank you! I really appreciate it. This really makes me nervous.

2 - OK. First of all, you need to choose the right pump. Does your car take regular, ethanol
or diesel fuel?

1 - That I know. It takes regular gasoline.

2 - Good! Drive up to pump five. You need to find out what side your tank is on, the right or
the left, and pull up to the pump correctly.

1 - Not a problem! Pulling up to the pump is the easy part.

2 - Great. Next, you will need to open the latch to the fuel tank. This is a button inside
your car that releases the latch.

1 - Got it. It’s right here next to the trunk release.

2 - Alright. Make sure your car is in “park,” and you have turned your engine off.

1 - So far, so good!

2 - Some gas stations let you pay at the pump. Some make you go inside to pay. If this is
the case, make a mental note of your pump number, so you can tell it to the cashier.

1 - One thing I know already is the danger of smoking or talking on your cell phone at the
pump. And the importance of grounding yourself before getting out of the car. Even static
electricity can cause a fire. It’s a little intimidating.

2 - Right, but you don’t have to worry too much. Now, for the fun part. Open your gas tank
and remove the nozzle from the pump, lifting the lever when you do so. Put it in the tank.
Press the handle on the gas nozzle and start pumping. When you are done, place the gas
pump back in the holster. Put your gas cap back on securely and close the cover on it.
Don’t forget to pay for your gas if you didn’t already!

1 - Whew! I think you deserve a tip for all this hard work! Seriously, thanks for helping me
out. Here’s a little something for you. Thank you so much.

2 - No problem. Thanks for the tip! Have a great day.

what side your tank is on, the right or the left, and pull up to the pump correctly.

1 - Not a problem! Pulling up to the pump is the easy part. (Sem problemas. Encostar na bomba
é a parte fácil.)

2 - Great. Next, you will need to open the latch to the fuel tank. (Ótimo. Próximo passo é abrir o
reservatório de gasolina.) This is a button inside your car that releases the latch.

1 - Got it. It’s right here next to the trunk release. (Feito. Está aqui bem perto do botão do portas
malas.)

2 - Alright. Make sure your car is in “park,” and you have turned your engine off. (Beleza.

1 - So far, so good! (Até agora tudo certo.)

Traffic Stop

1 - Wow! You got stopped by the police?

2 - Yes, I’m not proud to tell you that, but it’s true.

Making Dinner

1 - Let’s make dinner.

2 - OK. What do you want to make?

1 - Well, we can make a roast with rice or potatoes.

2 - I think it would be great to make potatoes.

1 - Do you like baked potatoes, mashed potatoes or roasted potatoes?

2 - What’s the difference?

1 - Well, baked potatoes are wrapped in aluminum foil and baked, mashed potatoes are
boiled, peeled, mixed with butter, salt and milk and mashed, and roasted potatoes are

1 - Well, we get a oiled pan good and hot and place the seasoned beef in there. What we
want is to sear the juices into the meat on all sides before we put it in the oven surrounded
by the potatoes.

2 - Can we put anything else in there with the potatoes?

1 - Sure. How about some onions, heads of garlic and carrots?

2 - Sounds delicious! Now, all we need is a green salad.

always wanted to ride on Space Mountain. It’s a classic. Then where should we go?

1 - There are lots of fun things to do in Tomorrowland, but if we want to go on the most
famous rides first, we should head over to the Haunted Mansion at Liberty Square. That’s
another ride that fills up quickly.

2 - OK. You seem to know your stuff. What ride do you think we should go on next?

1- Well, we skipped going to Fantasyland, since the rides there are mostly for small
children, but there are some greats there, like the Dumbo Ride, the Teacups and It’s a
Small World.

2 - That’s OK. We can always go over there later in the day, if we want to go on a few
slower rides. We’ll also have time to eat the meals and snacks that come with the meal
plan.

1 - Good idea. I made reservations for some of the meals, since the restaurants get
crowded.

2 - Thanks. I know that will save us time.

1 - Right. Well, Next, I suggest we run over and get a fastpass for Splash Mountain. That’s
in Frontierland. It will have a long line by then, and if we get a pass, we can enjoy the park
some more and go back at the time they say we can go on the ride.

2- Cool. There’s Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Frontierland, too. We’ll need a
Fastpass for that one, as well. We can get it as soon as we’re done riding Splash
Mountain.

1 - I can’t wait. Let’s try to get some sleep so we can get out there bright and early.

2 - Great!

1- OK, we need to decide where we are going to go tomorrow. Get ready to get up early! I
want to be there when the park opens. (Precisamos decidir onde vamos amanhã. Apronte-
se para acordar cedo! Eu quero estar lá quando o parque abrir.)

2- Sure! We’ll take the monorail to to The Magic Kingdom and start at Main Street, then
where do we go? Do you want to eat there? (Claro! Nós vamos pegar o bonde para o
Magic Kingdom na Main Street. Quer comer lá?)

1 - I got us the meal plan, and we should use it to eat breakfast at the hotel before we go. I
don’t want to miss any of the best rides. The lines are always short at the beginning and at
the end of the day. (Eu inclui refeições nas nossas reservas e talvez seja melhor a gente
comer no hotel antes de ir. Eu não quero perder as melhores atrações. As filas são
sempre menores no começo e no fim do dia.)

2- Look here at the map. Let’s go to Tomorrowland first. They have Space Mountain! I’ve
always wanted to ride on Space Mountain. It’s a classic. Then where should we go? (Olhe
o mapa. Vamos até Tomorrowland primeiro. Eles tem a Space Mountain! Sempre quis ir
nela. É um clássico.)

(Bom,
você parece que está por dentro. Qual atração devemos conhecer em seguida?)

1- Well, we skipped going to Fantasyland, since the rides there are mostly for small
children, but there are some greats there, like the Dumbo Ride, the Teacups and It’s a
Small World.
World).

2 - That’s OK. We can always go over there later in the day, if we want to go on a few
slower rides. We’ll also have time to eat the meals and snacks that come with the meal
plan. (Tudo bem.

1 - Good idea. I made reservations for some of the meals, since the restaurants get
crowded. (Boa ideia.
costumam ficar lotados.)
