Minutes

Bishop's Committee
February 12, 2011

Members Present: Krista Baker, Jessie Craig, Kevin Minch, Pete Kelly, Johnnette
Shane, Sally West.

Approval of Minutes

The minutes approval was postponed because the committee needed to review the
minutes from the previous meeting. The Committee asked to have Wynne forward the
minutes again for review.

Financial Report

• Krista presented the year-to-date numbers and explained the reports.

• The building fund is not normally included on the report but was included on the
list because of a recent donation to that fund.
• Income is slightly higher than projected at this point for the year, but this is
somewhat distorted due to the income from the building fund donation and
contributions that were probably hold-overs from the previous fiscal year.
• Krista reviewed various expenses, but none of them were notable expenses.

Vicar's Report

Johnnette referred to concerns regarding the future of Canterbury Club. Kyle has
stepped down as Peer Minister. There won't be a new Peer Minister until the Fall.
Johnnette intends to discuss the issue of the future of the club with students involved
and with Mike Ashcraft.

We need to determine what to do with the Peer Minister's money in the budget. We will
probably need to return it the Diocese since they have indicated that they money cannot
be transferred to another budget line item.

Senior Warden's Report

Nothing new to report since meeting held after the church's annual meeting.

New Business

Calendar for Lent and Easter

April 27th at 7:00 Service for the Celebration of New Ministry (an event somewhat
equivalent to the installation of a new minister). The Bishop and others should be
present. Should invite some other clergy to attend as well. Johnnette will be receiving
some materials from the Diocese, including invitations and a form of service, that we will
use. This is historically an event that is done well, with a nice reception.

The Choir is going to do a fundraiser a week-and-a-half before Ash Wednesday. It's

being held on March 1st. Johnnette suggested holding a pancake supper on Tuesday,
March 8 (shrove Tuesday).

The Committee discussed doing Stations of the Cross for Lent at 5:30 each Friday of
the season except Good Friday. Stations will go up on Ash Wednesday and stay up
through Lent.

The Committee endorsed the idea of having a discussion of how to live simply - possibly
facilitated by a book - scheduled on Wednesday before choir practices. It could be held
at 5:15 with volunteers preparing soup for the event. That leaves 90 minutes before the
choir practice to enjoy the soup and have a discussion from 5:30-6:30. The first
meeting would be on March 16. The series would continue for 5 weeks.

Ash Wednesday is March 9

Palm Sunday is April 17
Maundy Thursday is April 21
Good Friday is April 22
Easter is April 24

Johnnette looked at the Birthdays and Anniversaries list in the directory and thought that
we might want to consider a more formal acknowledgment of these dates. The
Committee considered various ways to do this. Johnnette will ask people with birthdays
and anniversaries to come forward each week for a brief acknowledgment and blessing.

The Committee discussed whether we want to continue first Sunday plate collections.
Krista moved and Pete seconded continuation. Passed unanimously.

The Committee discussed the United Thank Offering (UTO). UTO funds grants for
accessibility. There are responsible reasons to do this, but it is also appropriate if we
want to seek support for an accessibility initiatives. Will use boxes. Jessie moved.
Sally seconded. Passed unanimously.
