The interior permanent magnet synchronous machine (IPMSM) got
increased attention in recent years due to its high efficiency, large torque to volume ratio
and reliable operation[4]. In drives application the speed and the torque has to be
controlled precisely. Commonly used control schemes for IPMSM, which are usually,
applied to induction machine, are Field oriented control (FOC) and Direct Torque control
(DTC).In both of the control schemes we can control the flux and the torque
independently. In case of FOC coordinate transformation has to be done and also it
require continuous position information.DTC is more attractive such that it doesn¶t
require any coordinate transformation ,less parameter dependence and faster
response[1]. Sensors are employed to get the rotor speed and position information.
These sensors reduce the robustness of the drive. Hence the Sensorless schemes are
introduced with various methods. These all methods having the problem of estimation of
speed in low speeds. So here it is introducing a new method that can estimate the
speed at even low speeds.

Here, High frequency carrier injection method is used for the position and
the speed estimation. This algorithm will work efficiently at low speeds but at higher
speeds it will create large errors. So a new hybrid method of using two observers,
sliding mode observer (SMO)[3] and HF injection, and a change over algorithm is using
for the efficient operation[1]. Also a phase locked loop is used for the detection of the
information obtained from the HF injection technology. In order to minimum ripple in
the torque and the flux variable structure control and SVM technique [2] is used. Hence
by using this technique we can achieve the speed Sensorless operation even at zero
speed. Also the change over algorithm is so smooth such that it will give one smooth
transition of the observers.
