The Program´s Structure

The Tenaris Global Trainee Program is a combination of classroom training, e-learning courses
and practical on-the-job experience. The two-year program gets off to a strong start with the
month-long Induction Camp, bringing together the latest intake of Global Trainees. The four
weeks are a great opportunity for networking, learning about the company's fundamentals and
how to work as a team.

Back from camp, the rest of the program is structured around the following main pillars: On-the-
job experience, training packs and performance, and follow-up.

On-the-job training

Global Trainees are given real jobs with real challenges and real goals. You will be assigned two
year-long assignments in different Tenaris functional areas with specific responsibilities. This
gives you the chance to get to know Tenaris and grants supervisors the opportunity to see you in
action in more than one area.

For engineers, one assignment is the Mill Training, developed to provide a specialized
introduction to the Tenaris industrial culture and to guarantee that all engineers in the company
share a common level of knowledge.

Training packs

The Training Packs give you an overview of the company, a glimpse at the nuts and bolts of
working life at Tenaris. They consist of both classroom and e-learning courses and take you
through industrial processes and company procedures as well as tackling more specialized issues.
There is also a Management Pack that gives guidance for managing your own performance and a
Personal Pack for catching up on specific skills such as IT and languages.

Performance and follow-up

Feedback is a key element in the Global Trainee Program. Your supervisor and the Human
Resources Department closely monitor and evaluate your performance based on goals set at the
beginning of the program to provide you with the support and guidance you need.
Graduation from the GTP depends on successful completion of the assignments and the training
packs, as well as approval from senior managers. Once you have graduated, you’ll be well on
your way toward starting a career with Tenaris.

Technical School

The Technical School coordinates training for the mill workers and
shift leaders at Tenaris. Courses are taught in all seven of the main
languages used at Tenaris and global content is complemented by
mill-specific training.

Courses, which are assigned to employees based on their

development plan, include subjects such as: Production Processes
Fundamentals; Equipment Operation; Health, Safety and
Environment; Maintenance; Inspection; Products; Quality; and IT,
among others.

year Global Trainee Program. The School’s curriculum is divided into three academic levels of
increasing complexity. The actual courses the student takes depends upon his or her job
responsibilities and career development plan. Upon completing all requirements for each level, the
student receives a certificate.

The Commercial School is dedicated to enhancing the skills of employees in the Supply Chain,
Commercial Front End and Marketing areas.

The Commercial School’s courses cover a broad range of subjects, including: Product
Specification; Products & Services Catalog; Oil & Gas Technical Assistance; Demand Planning
and Production Scheduling; Logistics, Loading, Shipping & Delivery; Stock Management;
Commercial and Order Management Processes; Billing & Collection; Credit Risk Assessment,
Customer Relationship and Portfolio Management; Strategic & Operative Marketing; International
Trade.

Also, the School provides training using the Accenture-developed Supply Chain Academy – an
interactive tool that combines e-learning, workshops, simulations and other activities -,
complemented by Tenaris-specific initiatives.

Training
The Global Trainee Program is the main entranceway to Tenaris. Nearly 70% of current Tenaris
managers and directors joined the company as Global Trainees. Enhancing development and
career opportunities for junior professionals is an essential part of Tenaris’s philosophy.

As your career evolves in Tenaris, you can either focus on a specific area of expertise as a
Specialist and later an Expert or take a more general approach to business as a Coordinator and
later a Manager.

Tenaris recruits experienced candidates in all hierarchical levels and areas, though in lower
numbers than Global Trainees.

No matter where you join Tenaris, you will be promoted based entirely on your performance.
Throughout each stage in your career, you will receive constant support through different
training programs implemented by TenarisUniversity.

In Their Own Words

The Management Development Program (MDP) effectively combines practical work with business theory.
It is ideal for employees who have recently been promoted to coordinate people. The Program allows you
to interact with Tenaris directors from different areas and through them gain a deeper understanding of the
company’s culture, of the logic behind its organization and of the future expectations for Tenaris.
My training took place in Argentina, where I met my colleagues and obtained a better understanding of our
situation within the countries where Tenaris operates. The Program successfully mixed people from various
cultures thereby building a comprehensive network within the company.
Camilo Arango
Planning Coordinator, Colombia
The Management Development Program had a short but intense agenda where I was taken out of my
habitual office and required to work with people from different cultures within a completely foreign
environment. Though I had previously managed a team of 12 employees at TuboCaribe, I had never
received formal training. When TuboCaribe became part of Tenaris in 2006, I was offered the chance to
learn about leadership, which is something I was never taught in school. My team was assigned
hypothetical cases that successfully simulated real life situations and helped me understand my strengths
and weaknesses. It is not often that a company helps you grow professionally and personally at the same
time.
Yoshikazu Midorikawa
TenarisUniversity Far East, Japan

I joined Tenaris in 2002. My mission was to launch TenarisUniversity in Japan and is now to expand its
reach to other Far East countries. Working regionally on its establishment from day one, I have seen that
TenarisUniversity has become a common language for learning in Tenaris. It is also an important meeting
point in terms of global employee networking. Today, I feel that TenarisUniversity plays a significant role
in developing Tenaris’s unique corporate culture.
With new people, a new academic campus, and new business challenges, TenarisUniversity is now entering
a new stage. I will definitely continue to learn a great deal from it.

Management Development Program

Through the development course I gained a better understanding of the Tenaris way of working.
Specifically, I learned a lot about management skills which I plan to implement upon my return to the
Republic Conduit plant. Before starting the Management Development Program, I had several goals for
myself which I was able to reach and now I'm looking forward to the advanced courses. I estimate there
will still be challenges to come, as there always are, however, I believe that after the course, I will be better
equipped to face them.

Global Trainee, Argentina
Finance & Administration School

The Finance & Administration School is a great place to understand the company from a global point of
view and to strengthen my network of contacts while being part of a culturally diverse team. We are
working to achieve a deep understanding of the way things are done in Tenaris. We have had the support of
several experts that dedicated months of work to provide us with learning materials. I believe that this is an
excellent opportunity to acquire a solid base of knowledge to grow as a professional.

Management Development Program

While the company’s key ideas and concepts are developed by Tenaris directors, they have to travel down
the line. As a manager, it is my responsibility to assimilate ideas and to pass them on to my team. We
have to work to transmit an aligned way of working. In this sense, I think the Management Development
Program is an excellent asset.

TenarisUniversity Induction Camp

Coming from an economic and theoretical background, I had never had the chance to come into contact
with plant processes. During my first month at the TenarisUniversity Induction Camp they gave a unique
vision of working at the company. We were given in-depth information about processes and procedures so
we were really able to understand what Tenaris products are about.

Management Development Program

Teaching at the Management Development Program was a gratifying experience for many reasons. The
participants’ experience shown through their comments in the classroom, plus the culturally diverse group
and the energy put into the preparation of the cases created a program that, in my opinion, supported the
learning process.

TenarisUniversity Induction Camp

The TenarisUniversity Induction Camp prepared me for Tenaris's dynamic working style and helped me to
grow professionally. During one month, people from all around the world live and work together. The
activities planned helped us to define strategies in order to build a team and work efficiently. We had to
make compromises to reach middle ground and solve a specific problem. This is what Tenaris is like all
over the world.
Alex McLean
Professor Emeritus, University of Toronto
Industrial School

This was the finest example of a training course that I have ever experienced. Thank you so much for
the opportunity and the privilege to share it with you. The formation of Action Teams, consisting of six
or seven participants with a variety of backgrounds and different levels of experience, in order to
conduct operations-related case studies and resolve realistic plant problems, provides a marvelous
training environment, not only for the exchange of knowledge, but also for the development of inter-
personal communication skills and other leadership abilities. Finally, thank you for making me a Senior
Fellow of TenarisUniversity Industrial School. This is something that will always remind me of our
good times together and an honor I will always appreciate.
