"Scene 1 – The Dancers"

FADE IN:

THE OPERA HOUSE - NIGHT

prancheta e seu comunicador, pronta pra o grande show.

DIRETORA
(para o produtor ao
seu lado)
This could be our best show ever!
The dancers better be ready.

NO CAMARIM DOS DANÇARINOS, TODOS SE APRONTAM PARA O

ESPETÁCULO. AS DANÇARINAS SE VESTEM E SE MAQUIAM.

A Diretora do teatro entra no camarim das garotas e

desliga a música que está tocando. As garotas olham
para a diretora.

DIRETORA
Quick, girls! The play begins in
twenty minutes! The theatre is
full, this is a good night!

assustada, e deixa a porta escancarada.

ANNIE
Close the door, fast, it's him!

Todas as meninas encaram Annie, curiosas, e uma delas

fecha a porta.

ATRIZ 1
What the hell are you talking
about, honey?

ATRIZ 2
Who did you see?

ATRIZ 3
Where?

ANNIE
It was the Ghost! The Opera Ghost,
I saw him in the passage! He came
through, and I saw his face...
"The Phantom of The Opera" 2.

Yeah, right, and I'm the bloody
Queen. Everybody thinks they've
seen the ghost, but it's just a
shadow in the wall! Get over it,
girl.

ATRIZ 5
A lot of people say they've seen
the ghost.

ATRIZ 6
Joseph Buquet saw him the other
day, don't you remember?

ATRIZ 7
He said he was tall and wore a
black cape.

ATRIZ 8
He looks like a corpse, yellow with
no eyes and stuff.

ATRIZ 9
And no nose!

E então a pequenina Meg Giry fala pela primeira vez.

MEG
Don't talk about him. My mom says
he doesn't like that.

Meg.

DANÇARINA MORENA
Your mom? What does your mom know
about the Opera Ghost?

Todas garotas ficaram em silêncio, esperando a resposta

de Meg.

MEG
She says Joseph is a fool. The
Ghost hates people talking about
him all the time. And one day, he
is going to be very sorry.

"The Phantom of The Opera" 3.

ATRIZ 10
But... what does your mom have to
do with the ghost?

ATRIZ 11
What does she know? Tell us!

MEG
Ok! But you CAN'T tell my mom, or
anyone, do you get it?

MEG
You know my mom is the Box keeper
here at the Opera House. Well,
sometimes, the Ghost watches the
plays from Box 5. And he even
leaves flowers for my mom,
ocasionally.

ATRIZ 12
The ghost has a box... And leaves
flowers in it?

ATRIZ 13
Your mom is telling stories! How
can a Ghost have a box?

MEG
It's true! Nobody ever buys tickets
for Box 5, but the Ghost goes to
watch the shows there!

ATRIZ 14
So someone does go there?

MEG
Well, not really, the Ghost goes
there, but it's always empty. My
mom can only hear him. There isn't
a man with a black coat, or a
yellow face. Just a voice. He talks
to mom, and he said he doesn't like
people talking about him.

As garotas começam a sair do camarim, para o show.

MADAME GIRY
Oh, girls.. Joseph Buquet is dead!
Some stage workers found his body
four floors under the stage, with a
rope around his neck!

MEG
It's the ghost! The Opera Ghost
Killed him!

THE OPERA DIRECTOR'S OFFICE – THE NEXT MORNING

Joseph Buquet.

MONSIEUR ARMAND
It was an accident! Or he killed
himself!

MONSIEUR FIRMIN
Accident? Suicide? Wich story do
you want? Or the Ghost? It's
neither Ghostbusters nor CSI here,
my good friend.

MONSIEUR ARMAND
Don't even talk to me about that
damn ghost! We have 1500 people
working here and they're ALL
talking about the Opera Ghost, all
mad! So don't even go there, ok?

FIRMIN
And what on earth are we suppose to
do about this letter, Armand?

ARMAND
DO? What Can we do?
"The Phantom of The Opera" 5.

Armand pega a carta e a joga de novo à mesa,

enfurecido.

ARMAND
Don't sell tickets to Box 5?!?
20000 francs a month! That's the
best box in the opera, and we need
the money! And who is O.G.? Tell
me!

FIRMIN
Opera Ghost, I suppose. But we've
had enough of this talk! What about
tonight's show?

ARMAND
Well, the usual, La Carlotta will
sing the main song, right?

FIRMIN
Actually, she texted the director
this morning, she's sick, and not
coming.

ARMAND
All Paris is going to be here
tonight, and our main singer is
sick, just like that!

FIRMIN
Don't freak out, Armand. Christine
Daaé can sing tonight, she has a
beautiful voice.

ARMAND
But she's too young, and nobody
knows her! They all come for La
Carlotta, not a new singer.

FIRMIN
Well, maybe she's better than La
Carlotta, who knows?

“Scene 3 – Christine Daaé”

Está na hora do grande número de Christine, e todo o

público a adora. Todos aplaudem, e na saída, só falam
da nova garota cantando. Atrás da cortina, Meg Giry e
Annie Sorelli comentam sobre seu sucesso.

MEG GIRY
Christine's never sang like that
before, why was she so good
tonight?
"The Phantom of The Opera" 6.

ANNIE
Maybe she got a new teacher or
something. Well, I'm definetly
asking for his number!

So, what did you think of Christine
Daaé tonight, Raoul?

RAOUL
She is an angel, I'm going to see
her after the show, in her dressing
room.

Philippe, o Conde de Chagney, riu.

PHILIPPE
Ah, I see, you're in love! But this
is your first night in Paris, and
you've never been to the Opera. How
do you know Christine?

RAOUL
You remember when I went to the UK
for my vacations? I met her in
Inverness, and fell in love.

RAOUL
And I'm still in love with her.

PHILIPPE
Hmm, I see. But remember, she is
only a singer, we don't know
anything about her family.

RAOUL
Christine, are you OK? It's Raoul,
from Inverness, remember?
"The Phantom of The Opera" 7.

Doctor Who embaixo do cobertor comendo miojo...

CHRISTINE
No, I don't. Please go away, I
don't feel well.

Raoul ficou confuso, mas logo o médico disse:

DOCTOR
Yes, please, she is not well.
Everybody please leave. Ms. Daaé
needs to rest.

O Visconde estava do
volta e pressiona o ouvido contra a porta, pois ele

PHANTOM
You must love me, Christine!

CHRISTINE
How can you say that, when I only
sing for you? I gave you everything
tonight. And now I'm so tired...

PHANTOM
You sing like an angel.

embora, ninguém a seguiu. Raoul entrou no camrim,
fechou a porta e o chamou.

RAOUL
Where are you? I know you're in
here! Come out!

Mas ninguém respondeu. Raoul olha para todos os cantos

do camarim, mas não havia ninguém lá.

ESCRITÓRIO DOS DIRETORES DA ÓPERA - NO DIA SEGUINTE

"The Phantom of The Opera" 8.

fazer.

ARMAND
So, Firmin, is this still a joke?
What are we going to do? Is O.G.
The director here or are we?

FIRMIN
Don't shout, Armand. We need
answers. We must talk to Madame
Giry, she can tell us about Box 5.

Mas Madame Giry não ajudou. Ela não tinha medo de

fantasmas, nem de diretores de óperas.

ARMAND
Some people say you are the Ghost's
friend.Tell us about him.

FIRMIN
Yes, what do you say?

MADAME GIRY
I say the directors of the Opera
House are fools!

ARMAND
WHAT?

Armand se levanta, furioso.

ARMAND
Listen to me, woman-

FIRMIN
Oh, sit down and listen, Armand.
What do you mean, Madame?

Armand se senta e Madame Giry continua.

MADAME GIRY
Well, the Ghost is mad at you. When
he wants something, he must have
it. He is very clever and
dangerous. The last directors tried
to stop him. You know what
happened? Strange accidents,
according to the police. All
because the ghost was angry. So
they learned it quickly. If he
wants Box 5? Let him have it! 20000
francs? Just give him the money!
They understood well.
"The Phantom of The Opera" 9.

ARMAND
But we are the directors of the
Opera House, not the Opera Ghost!

Armand vira para Firmin.

ARMAND
This woman is mad. Why are we
listening to her? Friday, Carlotta
is going to sing, and we will be
watching from Box 5!

FIRMIN
Well, we can try. But I don't want
any accidents.

Madame Giry se aproxima deles e fala.

MADAME GIRY
Do you remember Joseph Buquet? The
Ghost is a good friend, but a bad
enemy.

Os dois homens a encararam.

FIRMIN
Why do you say those words?

MADAME GIRY
Because I heard it from him. I
never see him, but I hear his
voice. He has a nice voice. And he
doesn't shout at people.

passando “Fatos Impressionantes, Pessoas Reais”.

OVERVOICE
Dear Raoul, Of course I remember
you! How could I ever forget? Meet
me in the Tuilieres Garden,
Thursday at Three o'clock. Please
do not be mad at me. Christine

GARDEN – THURSDAY AT 3PM

tempos juntos.

RAOUL
But why did you go away, Christine?
Why didn't you write me?

Christine toma alguns segundos para responder, mesmo

assim, responde pausadamente.

CHRISTINE
We were so young! I was just a poor
girl from norway, trying to be a
singer, and you a Vicomte! I knew
we could never be together.

RAOUL
But I love you, Christine!

CHRISTINE
After I came back to Norway, I
tried like crazy to be a singer,
the best in the world. And then I
moved to Paris.

RAOUL
But you are the best singer in the
world! All Paris is at your feet.

Christine virou a cara, em silêncio.

RAOUL
I need to ask you a question. Who
was that man in your dressing room
on Tuesday night?

Christine o encara, pálida.

CHRISTINE
What man? There was no man in my
dressing room Tuesday night.

RAOUL
I heard him. Who was he?
"The Phantom of The Opera" 11.

CHRISTINE
Don't even ask me that! There was a
voice in my dressing room, alright,
but there was no man at all in
there. Oh, Raoul, I'm so scared!

RAOUL
Who is he? Tell me! I'm your friend
and I can help you. Tell me his
name!

CHRISTINE
I can't tell you his name, it's a
secret. I never see him, I only
hear his voice, but he's everywhere
at the Opera House. He sees and
hears everything, everyone. That is
why I was so rude with you on
Tuesday. He is also my music
teacher, and a wonderful singer. He
is the reason I am famous now. And
he says he loves me. How can I
leave him?

Do you want to lose your voice

La Carlotta is angry.

LA CARLOTTA

ANNIE
Meg, what's wrong?

MEG
It's the Ghost! My mom says he is
angry, and she's afraid something
will go wrong.

Então, aquela dançarina chata do começo do filme diz.

DANÇARINA MORENA
Pfft, who's afraid of the big bad
Ghost?

Todas riem.

the music is about to begin.

Firmin e Armand continuam a assistir a peça,

FIRMIN
Did you hear that?

AMRNAD
No.

La
Carlotta tenta cantar novamente, as nada acontece.

MEET ME ON THE TOP

OF THE OPERA HOUSE
IN AN HOUR.

THE TENTH FLOOR OF THE OPERA HOUSE – AN HOUR LATER

CHRISTINE
Raoul, I will tell you everything,
but this is our last meeting. You
can never see me again.

RAOUL
But I love you, and we--

CHRISTINE
Shut up and listen! He could be
listening, he is everywhere at the
Opera House!

RAOUL
Who are you talking about?
"The Phantom of The Opera" 14.

CHRISTINE
My angel of music. He came to me on
Saturday, on my dressing room. I
saw him for the first time. He was
wearing black clothes and a mask.
He took me through many secret
doors, until we reached the bottom
of the Opera House. There was a
lake, with black and cold water,
and a mansion. He took me into the
house, in a boat. He is not a
Ghost, or an angel! He is a man,
called Erik, and he loves me! He
wants to marry me! He said no woman
could ever love him, because of his
face. Then, he took off his mask,
and I saw his face.

Christine começou a chorar.

CHRISTINE
Oh, Raoul, he had the most terrible
face ever! He was so ugly I wanted
to run and hide, but where to? He
had the face of a dead man, but he
was very much alive! He had no
nose, or eyes, and a terrible
yellow face. And sometimes, there
was a red light coming from his
eye-holes! I stayed in his house
for a few days. He was kind, and
welcoming. I felt sorry for him. He
wants me to love him, and I told
him, I told him!

RAOUL
NO!NO! We must stay together! Run
away with me! You can't go back to
him!

CHRISTINE
I have to. He knows about us, and
he's going to kill you. I have to
go back to him.

RAOUL
NEVER! I love you, and I will kill
this Erik!

"The Phantom of The Opera" 15.

PERSIAN
Not those stairs! Use the ones in
the front! Quick!

Eles correm.

RAOUL
Who was that?

CHRISTINE
That was the Persian. He's always
here. He knows about Erik, and he
wants to help us stop him!

Eles chegam às escadas.

RAOUL
Saturday night. We'll run away and
get married.

CHRISTINE
Yes, Raoul!

As luzes voltam,

ARMAND
Go away, woman!

MADAME GIRY
Sir, there are three people missing
now! Meg, tell them your story!

Então Meg dá seu depoimento.

"The Phantom of The Opera" 17.

MEG (VOICEOVER)
When the lights went out, we were
just behind the stage, we heard a
scream. I think it was Christine's
voice! Then, the lights came back
on, and she wasn't there anymore!
We were very scared, and we ran
back to our dressing room. There
were people running eveywhere.
Then, we saw Vicomte de Chagney.
His face was red, and he was very
angry. “Where's Christine, where's
Christine!?” - he shouted.
Suddenly, the Persian came up
behind him, and took his arm. He
said something, and they went into
Christine's dressing room...

Quick! Come with me, but be
careful! I understand Erik's
secrets! Put your right hand up
near your head, like this. And keep
it there all the time.

RAOUL
But why?

PERSIAN
remember Joseph Buquet, and the
rope arround his neck? Erik s a
clever man with ropes in the dark.

Eles passam por muitas escadas e passagens secretas.

RAOUL
When do we get to the lake?
"The Phantom of The Opera" 18.

PERSIAN
We are not going to the lake. We're
going to enter Erik's house from
the back. I know some secret doors.

Logo, eles chegam no local desejado. O Persa move a

parede, e uma porta de abre. Eles entram em silêncio,
mas a porta fecha-se atrás deles.

PERSIAN
Oh no! It was the wrong door! This
is his torture room! The room of
mirrors! We are dead men.

RAOUL
Oh, I'm sorry, Christine! I wanted
to save you, and now I'm dying!

ERIK
He's dying Christine. Watch him,
carefully. Don't close your eyes,
watch him.

CHRISTINE
HOW COULD YOU DO THIS? WHY DON'T
YOU JUST KILL ME?

ERIK
Because I love you! Marry me, be my
wife and love me. Then Raoul and
the Persian can live.

CHRISTINE
Yes, Erik. From this minute, I'm
your wife.

Ela o abraça e o beija.

CHRISTINE
Poor unhappy Erik.

ERIK
I dindn't ask you to kiss me, and
you did it anyway! Oh, Christine,
my angel! That was my firt kiss
ever! Even my mother never kissed
me! She gave me my first mask when
I was two years old.
