1. _purpo~. The purpose ·of this regulation: i.s to establish the .56th /,rtillery
Group Pershing Professi'?nal Badge awards program.

2.. Aoplicability. •· This r:egtllation applies to this headquarters .and all subordi~
nate commands. : ,..

J •. Policies. a. The award of the Pershing Professional Badge is.not automatic


upon assignment of an individual to this command. Designation as a Pershing Pro..;
fessioha.l is based on d.emo.nstrated· excellence; of performance.

b. RecormhendD.tions :for· awards a'nd. subsequent· .authorizations for· awar:ds of the


Pershing Professional Badge must be selective and carefully controJ.led. It i~ not
the intent that this badge be awarded to every individual assigned to the command.
These .badges are to be avJarded to the most outstanding p10ri: in. each MOS or type job
position. ·-Attainment of rank or -position is not a: crit~ria except in those in-
stances outlined in paragraph 5b 1 this roculation. Awards are.to be made.to those
men vJho have contributed to the mission accorrmlishment of this cor:1nand for a sus-
. tairted period of tine or· who have demonstrated exce:·;tional professional .perfomance
of duty while involvvd in ·a.-specific ·act or acts •. 'A gcnE:~ral guideline is that
thirty percent of an l·iOS' or tyue position would be desirmated as Persing Profession-
als· at ·~ny given time.· Eligibility requirements for aw~rd. of· the Pershing Profes-
sional Badge are further defined ih para,sra.ph:, 5 .· q.nd ANNEX .A1 this regulation ..

c. 'The· rie;ht to vJcar the Pershing ~rofessional Badge is a privilege wh:J-ch may
be revoked; for any one• of the· following. r~c.sons:· {1) · TlN r<;;cipicnt demonstrates
·by his actions that. ho: is no longer qualified .to wear the· i'"'ershing Professional .
Badge.

(2) Tlw reciph;nt is the .subject. of· formal disciplinary a~~ion •.

(3) The recipient is the subj.e~ct of. an. adverso personnel, action.

The c·ertifico.te which acc.ompanies ·the. avmrd. o~. the J:ershing. Pl:~ofessj,ona~. Badge
will not be withdrawn.

4. Procedur~§.· a• Tho 56th Artillery. C~o'up Commander or his designc.tecl repre-


sentative will award the Pershing Professional Badge to. :ntembers -of th:Ls headquart-
ers and to Bnttalion Commanders. Battalion Corm:1ander.s will award the Pershing
Professional ;Badge to meJ:~bers of their commands. Al<Vards l<Vill be based on recommend-
ations of connnander/supcrvisor 1 e.g. unit corru.1ander recor.ll!l.cnds for his battery per-
-- sonnel 1 Group or Battalion Executive Officer reconm1ends for staff nenbers.

b. En.ch award will be acconpanied by a certificate authenticated by the appro-


lJriate col!JI:',andE::r designnted in paragraph 4a, this regulation, and by his cor.uaand

adjutant. A sample of this certificate is attached as ANNEX B to this regulation.


In addition each recipient of the .m~ard will be given a copy of this regulation.

c. The Pershing Fxofessional Badge will b~ vJorn centered on the right pocket
of the uniform Ex:ceptions to this policy will be made when wear conflicts with
wear of an insignia, accouterrnent, or badge authorized by higher headquarters.
In these instances the Pershing Professional Badge will be worn onthe left uniform
pocket.

d. Certificates accompanying the Pershing Professional Badge, A~~mx B, will be


proVided by the Command Sergeant Major, this headquarters.

e. Pershing Professional a~dges awarded to ~embers of this headquarters will


be purchased from the Command Sergeant :Hajor, 56th Artillery Gr-oup by the recipient.
Subordinate co~ands may submit bulk orders for Badges to the Command Sergeant ·
Major, this headquarters. Unit funds are not authorized to be used· to·ptircha-se
subject Badges.

are recommended and approved· for award of. subject. B-2dges will· be· awarded the cer-
tificate. In no instance will an indiVidual be require~ to purchase a Pershing

TO 'lliE HOST OUTSTANDING l-IEN IN ANY !:!.Q§ OR TYPE FDSITION.

1. Members of firing contingents accomplishing a successful CONUS firing.

2. Battalion Soldiers of the Month.

3. Honor or distinguished graduates of United States Army, Europe Schools.


4. Graduates of the Seventh 1irmy Noncomrnissioned Officers 1 Academy.

5. Individuals attaining lviOS ?roficiency test scores which qualify than for
speci<llty or proficiency pay.

6. Individuals who through their action during a specific activity contribute


greatly to mission accomplishment or responsiveness, e.g. an assigned operator
who receives an adjusted score of 96 or higher on his equipment during a USfJtEUR
or Group Roadside Spot Check or Connnand ·Haintenance J).ianagen1ent Inspection.

7. Supervisors and personnel directly responsible for laudntory co~1ents made


during inspections or evaluations conducted by headquarters superior to the 56th
Artillery Group.
