by varying the chiller controls and cooling load output
to stay on-line and avoid safety limits being reached.
This allows maximum possible cooling capacity until
the unusual condition is cleared and avoids costly
shutdowns.

Low-pressure liquid refrigerant enters the evaporator tubes and is evaporated and superheated by the heat energy
absorbed from the chilled water passing through the evaporator shell. Low-pressure vapour enters the compressor
where pressure and superheat are increased. High-pressure vapour is passed through the oil separator where oil
is removed, from the refrigerant, and recirculated to the compressor via the oil cooler. High-pressure oil-free vapour
is fed to the air-cooled condenser coil where heat is rejected to the air that is forced across the coil surface by fans.
The fully condensed liquid refrigerant enters the feed stepper motor valve that controls the liquid flow to maintain a
constant liquid level in the Flash Tank. The drain stepper motor valve functions as an Electronic Expansion Valve and
controls the refrigerant flow to the evaporator based on the compressor suction superheat. The Economiser Solenoid
Valve controls a medium pressure vapour feed to the compressor economiser port. When the valve is open refrigerant
vapour flashes off, in the flash tank, to provide additional subcooling to the liquid in the tank. The subcooled liquid
is then fed to the evaporator. Increasing both the subcooling and the superheat therefore enhancing the cooling
capacity.

CHILLER CONTROL LOGIC

Smart Anticipatory Control determines how many

compressors need to start to satisfy the current cooling
load. The “smart” logic is capable of reducing short
cycling and reducing loading time on a hot water start
and starting all compressors at the same time.

It is desirable to run as many compressors as possible

for increased efficiency. Smart anticipatory control logic
will keep as many compressors on line and reduce
the speed in an effort to optimise the use of the entire

5. Altitude above sea level. the flow rate, the conditions will be as follows:

6. Design evaporator fouling factor. Cooling capacity: 870.4 kW

7. Static pressure resistance against condenser Water temperature: 12°C to 7°C (Range = 5°C)
entering and leaving air flow (where ducts, louvres,
attenuators, etc., are used) at full unit air volume. Water flow rate: 41.6 I/s

Note: Items 1, 2 and 3 must be linked by the following Compressor power: 271.3 kW
formulae: All values are within the Operating Limitations. From
Cooling Capacity (kW) = Range (°C) x Flow (litres/sec) Pressure Drop Graph, YCIV0920 evaporator water
x 4.18 pressure drop = 65 kPa at the calculated flow of 41.6 l/s.
