Har Shalom Highlights

Thank you!

The Seventh Graders would like to extend a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated in the Hospitality Dinner last week. It was a spectacular success.

42 MINUTES OF KABBALAH Every Friday from 2-2:42 PM

We will be studying kabbalistic texts in Hebrew in the rabbis' study at CHS with Rabbi Ben. We will begin with Yehuda Ashlag's Talmud Eser Sefirot. We will be reading the Hebrew text and translating on the spot. If you do not read Hebrew you can sit in and participate in the discussion.

ILLUSTRATED COOKBOOK: WE NEED YOUR RECIPES! Har Shalom Preschool and Kindergarten are making an illustrated cookbook, and we need your recipes!

We are looking for your favorite recipes for Jewish holidays, including but not limited to, brisket, Passover recipes, hamantashen, latkes, Rosh Hashanah desserts, and Israeli recipes.

Please place any hard copies in the Preschool/Kindergarten box in the office, or email them to lksnider2@comcast.net by March 25. Cookbooks will go on sale later in the spring.

Four Mitzvot of Purim

1 HEARING THE READING OF THE

MEGILLAH – Remember to bring your coins and dollars to donate to the Food Bank for Larimer County.

2 REJOICING – This year, Mitzvah

Day, Sunday, March 20th, is the same day as Purim, so we all should participate together in Mitzvah Day with joyous energy!

3 SENDING FOOD TO FRIENDS

(mishloach manot)

4 GIVING GIFTS TO THE POOR

Please bring your food donations for the Food Bank for Larimer County to the Megillah event on Saturday, March 19.

Get Wild on Purim – It’s a Tradition!

Join us on Saturday, March 19th at 7:00 PM for a traditionally irreverent rendition of the Megilla, as we chant, mock, parody, dance and rhyme the Book of Esther, fulfilling our sacred duty to have a grand ol’ time on Purim. Some of the finest home- grown Jewish ‘talent’ in Northern Colorado will present creative interpretations of the Megillah while the rest of us laugh at and yell at Haman (boo!).

Come as you are or come as you aren’t. (You never know which famous characters might show up!)

Bring a dessert to share and your own libations. Bring your donations to the Food Bank for Larimer County, too!

Questions? Call Nina at 221-5554.

Habitat for Humanity project

Contact: Gary Spivak, gspivak@wdemail.com

We will be working at 317 Albion Way, which is next door to the house we worked on for the first Mitzvah Day. The house is nearly finished, so we will be doing interior or exterior painting, depending on the weather. Wear clothing appropriate for painting!

Directions: From Horsetooth and Manhattan (Carmike Cinema) go south and turn left at Albion. The house is on the right near the end of the road.

Time: 9:00 to about 3:00, Sunday, March 20

Who: No previous experience is necessary. Volunteers who are 16-18 years old can volunteer but must have a waiver signed by a parent. Waivers can be downloaded from the Habitat website. All volunteers will need to sign a release and must sign up on their website: http://fortcollinshabitat.org/Volunteer.php. When you register, be sure to indicate that you are part of the “Har Shalom Team”. Please sign up in advance, since we need to know that there will be enough people to do

the work. A maximum of 12 people can work at this site. Questions should be directed to Gary.

JOIN THE TASTE TEAM

Taste of Har Shalom – A Jewish Family Festival For ALL is looking for a few good men and women!

In celebration of National Jewish Heritage Month, Har Shalom organized the first “Taste of Har Shalom” in May 2010 to celebrate and share Jewish culture, learning, traditions, and FOOD with the greater Fort Collins community. It was a huge success. The excitement radiating from the crowds, the smells of the Jewish

cuisine, the Jewish music and Israeli dancing, kabbalah cards being read, advice from a Jewish mother, were just a few of the many joys this day brought not only to our community, but friends of the community as well. It was truly amazing. This event

had several goals

Jewish family festival for all, to raise funds for our awesome community, to create positive memories, and to show the excitement of being Jewish to the greater community. We are happy to say that each of those goals were met.

to provide a fun

Plans are underway for the Second Annual Taste of Har Shalom and we hope YOU will be part of the planning. Our committee is meeting on Tuesday, March 22, 7:00 PM at CHS. Many of the committee members from last year are returning because they want to be part of this exciting tradition. But we need more help to make this year’s Taste even bigger and better.

If you are interested in being part of the fun of planning one of Har Shalom’s premier events, please join us at this meeting. If you’re unable to attend, but would like to be involved, please contact Brooke

Scrip Trudy Herman t.herman@comcast.net
