TITLE Fund Development Intern
REPORTS TO Director of Fund Development

LENGTH OF EMPLOYMENT 14 weeks or one semester; summer internship is available

DEFINITION Community Action Partnership of Greater St. Joseph seeks a Fund Development Intern to help
further the capacity of the non-profit community action agency through community awareness and
media relations. This position will implement and achieve outcomes as contracted below. All
efforts will be aligned with the fund development plan.

The Fund Development Intern will build and maintain relationships with a variety of partners in
Andrew, Buchanan, Clinton and DeKalb Counties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

A. Coordinate Breakfast Club volunteers and community events (2 per semester) as determined by the Executive
Director, Director of Fund Development and Fund Development Intern.

B. Build the image of the agency and the issue of poverty through local media with writing news releases and
PSAs as necessary and one feature article per month. Also build awareness by maintaining agency’s social
media networks (Facebook and Twitter) and the agency’s website.

C. Develop donor communications such as newsletters, e-newsletters, direct mail campaigns and annual report as
determined by the Executive Director and Director of Fund Development.

D. Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
Junior or senior-level student pursuing studies in marketing, journalism, public relations or a similar degree program.
Previous intern experience is preferred.

• Ability to work independently, to work with others and as a team member
• Confidentiality, tact and discretion with dealing with clients
• Experience in marketing, event planning, social media and public relations
• Ability to work flexible hours
• Valid driver’s license
• Provide own insured transportation

OTHER
Hours to be completed will be determined by Northwest Missouri State University as deemed appropriate for class and/or
internship credit. It is the hope the student will complete 7-10 hours of work per week, with an option of working from home
with regular meetings in St. Joseph as determined by the Director of Development and Fund Development Intern. CAP St.
Joe will ensure the student is given flexibility for class and study time.

At the completion of the internship, the student will have numerous portfolio examples and be given a formal evaluation to
further his or her knowledge in their abilities and skills.
