Dear Student,

At the onset of your career it is most important for you to understand the
importance of practical implications of the theoretical fundamentals. The fundamentals
that you had been learning so far in the first year of the curriculum need to be tested in
the harsh waters of the market. Industry interface is the most vital component for any
management course; it gives a holistic approach and pragmatic perspective towards the
fundamentals and its implications.

All this is to inform you about the final project that you are required to do during
the course of the second year. Let us understand first why we need to do the project as a
part of the academic programme. A project is a means to apply your conceptual
knowledge of the subject. A project is the practical application of the concepts and
theories, which you study as a part of academics. It helps you to widen your horizons. It
helps to build a bridge between your textbook knowledge and the practicality of the
business. The final project topic should be selected keeping in mind the discipline in
which you are doing your specialization. It can broadly be divided into four different
categories namely,

Marketing
Finance
Business Management
H.R.

Whatever the subject may be, the project report normally follows a standard
framework. Guidelines for the standard format are given below:

1. Title of the project The project should start with the details of the project
title, your name, registration number and the name of
the faculty to whom it is submitted.
2. Acknowledgements A brief thank you note to the people who have helped
you in the project.
3. Table of contents List of the various topics covered in the project
along with the page numbers.
4. Body of the project This would include the detailed report.
5. Annexure This will contain the graphs, charts or any other data
you need to attach which serves the purpose of the
report.
6. Bibliography List of books, magazines, journals, websites etc.
referred by you.

The body of the report will include the following :


1. Objectives of the project The main purpose of the project
2. Scope of the project The aspects covered
3. Executive Summary It is the most important part of the project. It is a
snapshot of the project. It should be ideally 2-3
pages, A-4 size and not more than that. It helps the
readers to know what the project is all about. It
should cover all the findings, conclusions or
recommendations.
4. Research Methodology It is the method used to do the research, which can be
primary or secondary. In case of primary research the
methodology of research, mention the source of data.
5. Findings It is the heart of the project. The findings should
be divided into three parts; Introduction, Main
Content and Conclusion
6. Suggestions/Recommendation This would be your views/ opinions on the project.
You can give comments, but they should be justified
and logical

GENERAL GUIDELINES FOR WRITING


The project has to be in printed form with font size of 12 and on A4 paper
It should be spiral bound

The length is not important, but the content is.


Always adhere to deadlines

A few topics in different disciplines are given below; it is just an indicative list to
give you an idea as to the different kinds of projects that can be done. It need not
necessarily be these topics. The topic you select could be in the organization/industry that
you are working in. You have the liberty to select any topic with the approval of the
HOD, Department of Distance Learning. You need to send us a list of at least three topics
in order of your preference. We will then approve a topic, and give you the go ahead.
You can always make an academic project into a Corporate Project by doing live case
studies on companies based on your project topic. For e.g. Effectiveness of Sales
Promotion & Advertising in Pidilite. It is always preferable to do a live project to gain a
better understanding of the topic.
