JOB TITLES AND FUNCTIONS

GM - General Manager
Oversees all hotel operations and staff.

FC - Financial Controller
Manages the operations of the accounts department.

DOC - Director of Catering


Responsible for planning and managing food and drinks offer.

CSM - Conference/Convention Services Manager


Coordinates group meetings, events or conventions

DOSM - Director of Sales & Marketing


Responsible for maximising profitability of the hotel.

FOM - Front Office Manager


Oversees day-to-day operation of front desk and reception.

DEPARTMENTS

BOH - Back Of House


The areas of the hotel that have little or no guest contact

(kitchen, engineering, accounting, etc)

FOH - Front Of House


All guest-facing staff and areas of a hotel

F&B (F&D) - Food and Beverage (Food and Drinks)


Staff and departments involved with preparing, presenting and

serving food and beverages.

FR - Function room
A large room where formal dinners and parties can be held.

S&C - Sales and Catering


Responsible for selling and servicing group bookings.

FIT - Free Independent Traveller


Guests that are not part of a group or package.

FAM - Familiarisation
Corporate guests such as travel agents who receive a

complimentary or reduced-rate night.

MICE - Meetings, Incentives, Conferences & Exhibitions


Large group bookings, often planned a year or two in advance.

RATES

ADR - Average Daily Rate


Total room revenue divided by total number of rooms sold.

BAR - Best Available Rate


Lowest rate of the day that is available for guests to book.

MAR- Minimum Acceptable rate


Lowest rate that can be given to a group

CMP - Complete Meeting Package


Per person charge, including room, F&B and proportion of all

other event charges

DDR - Day Delegate Rate


Charge per meeting attendee, including room hire, lunch, etc.

ROH - Run of House


Non-specific booking. The hotel chooses the room upon check-in

NRB - Negotiated Rate Business


Special prices offered to corporate customers in return for

frequent use of the hotel.

An online company that sells a hotel's room inventory for them.

CRO - Central Reservations Office


Central hub that handles bookings on behalf of a hotel or chain.

GDS - Global Distribution System


Network of electronic reservation systems used globally by

travel agents booking hotel rooms.

CRM - Customer Relationship Management


Manages interactions with clients and potential clients.

CRS - Central Reservation System


System that facilitates the booking of rooms, conferences, etc.

PMS - Property Management System


Facilitates reservation management and administrative tasks.

POS - Point of Sale System


Where the customer transaction occurs.

RMS - Revenue Management System
