STYLE SHEET (IN ENGLISH)

1. MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION

Authors or Editors in charge of manuscript submission:

• Please enclose a short notice to let us know which kind of word
processing program you used.
• Please use standard word processors only (Word for Windows or Mac,
WordPerfect, Open Office etc.). All manuscript files must be stored in
the same file format.
• If you save chapters or contributions in separate files, please assign
each file an easy-to-identify file name (e.g. chap1authorname.doc).
• Please number the pages consecutively throughout the manuscript
(including the first page) – do not start over with each new
chapter/contribution.
• Please include a comprehensive Table of Contents.

2. GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR PREPARING MANUSCRIPTS

For more detailed instructions, please consult the Chicago Manual of Style.

• The most important rule is consistency. Please make sure always to

use the same style/method etc.
• The whole text, including captions, should run flush left.
• No syllabification.
• To indent text, please set tabs, not spaces.
• To emphasized words, use italics only, no bold fonts, e.g. for titles or
special terms.
• To place and administer footnotes, use the word processing program
only.
• Footnotes should be counted by chapter.

Instructions for tables and figures

• Please store tables and figures in separate files (each table or figure in
a file of its own). Files should be named so that they can be easily
identified, e.g. authorname_tab1.doc.
• Tables and figures should be counted within each chapter/contribution
(Table 1/Table 2, etc.; Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). Sources are given below
the tables/figures.
• To ensure high print quality, please submit files and/or print outs of the
figures for evaluation as early as possible.
• Figures/tables must be printed out on separate pages for reproduction.
Please do not print out tables and figures within the text. One
figure/table per page, please.
• Give a standardized instruction on the very spot where you want to
have tables/figures inserted into the text. Do not forget captions.

3. QUOTES

• Set poems and longer quotes (3 lines or more) in smaller fonts, and set
an indent left. In that case, no quotation marks are necessary.
• Sources should be given either in the footnotes or in the text. Please
use the author-date system: (Author, year, page[s]); e.g. (Müller,
1980b, S. 931-932). To differentiate authors with the same name,
please include initials or first name. All works cited in the text must to
be included in the reference list.
• References to works by more than one author: Please use only the first
name on the title page followed by “et al.” or “u.a.” (for und andere)
• References to Nietzsche texts:
• Please use the abbreviations from the list
• To refer to German KSA occurrences, please us the following
form: KSA vol.nr..pagenumber, e.g. KSA 7.145, for KSA 7.145-158.
