Reflective
Essay
About
Your
Piece:

• Introduction
(thesis
statement):
Write
an
introduction
that
sets
the
tone
for
the
paper
and

establishes
your
intent.
This
should
include
general
information
about
the
tradition
of
the

medium
you
work
in,
a
statement
about
your
choices
within
that
medium,
and
the
connection

between
your
work
and
that
of
two
artists
(one
current
and
one
historical).
The
introduction

should
clearly
convey
your
creative
motivation,
and
provide
reasons
for
the
content
and

materials
you
use
in
your
work.
Ultimately,
the
opening
of
your
essay
should
be
well
organized,

with
a
clear
thesis
and
overview
of
the
main
points
of
your
paper
(in
the
order
in
which
they

follow).

• Body
Paragraphs:

Discuss
your
piece
of
work
in
the
context
of
its
relationship
to
artistic

tradition.

Be
sure
to
point
to
specific
qualities
of
the
piece,
including
compositional
choices,
use

of
materials
and
processes,
stylistic
choices
and
subject
matter,
and
use
these
to
discuss
and

reflect
on
how
they
adhere
to
or
challenge
the
traditions
of
the
medium
you
work
in.
As
stated

above,
you
must
refer
to
and
discuss
the
work
of
at
least
two
other
artists
(historic
and
currently

practicing)
as
you
make
your
points
within
the
body
paragraphs.

• Conclusion:

Reflect
on
what
you
have
learned
about
yourself
as
an
artist
from
this
exercise
by

reviewing
the
matters
covered
in
the
body.
Tie
these
to
your
thesis.
Close
with
any
insights
and

information
you
have
gained
and
consider
how
this
knowledge
might
guide
you
toward
your

goals
for
your
work
in
the
future.

Do
not
be
vague;
your
conclusion
should
summarize
specific

issues
that
you
addressed,
and
describe
how
these
particulars
will
influence
forthcoming
work.
