High Speed Broadband (HSBB) is a broadband service that offers bandwidth delivered at
network speeds of 10Mbps and above when compared to normal broadband (Broadband to the
General Population (BBGP)) which delivers bandwidth through wired and wireless technologies
at network speeds ranging between 256Kbps and 4Mbps. Eventually in Malaysia, we will see
basic HSBB packages offering network speeds between 20-50Mbps and up to 100 Mbps for
consumers while businesses will have maximum network speeds available up to 1,000Mbps
(1Gbps).

HSBB stands for High Speed Broadband delivering bandwidth at network speeds of 10Mbps and
above through fixed line only as compared with normal broadband (Broadband for General
Public ± BBGP) delivered at network speeds ranging from 384Kbps to less than 10Mbps through
fixed line (DSL) and wireless mode (3G/HSDPA, WiMax, WiFi). HSBB will initially be
deployed via optic fiber in the inner Klang Valley, Iskandar Malaysia and key industrial zones
throughout the country. It is expected that 1.3 million premises will have the ability to access
HSBB coverage by end 2012.

HSBB is capable of delivering Triple Play services. Having Internet from 10Mbps and
above directly to your home / office, will enable you to do many things. Example of these will
be:
Streaming or downloading your favorite music and videos
Watch High Definition television (IPTV HD) directly from your TV.
High quality voice and video conferencing with your colleagues, family and friends anywhere.
Triple Play service is a 3 services are delivered over a single broadband line. The 3 services are
High Speed Internet (HSI), Voice and IPTV.

HSBB will take 2-5 years to be implemented nationwide. The current coverage area of HSBB is
within the Klang Valley and Iskandar Malaysia, Johor.

HSBB delivered to consumers and businesses will be through a mix of Fibre-to-the-
Home (FTTH)*, Ethernet-to-the-Home (ETTH) **, Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line 2
(VDSL2)*** and Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line 2+ (ADSL2+)**** technologies. In
greenfield (new development) areas, FTTH will be the pre-dominant technology used for both
residential and commercial properties, whereas, brownfield (existing development) areas will be
served by FTTH, ETTH, VDSL2 and ADSL2+ technologies depending on the types of
properties and services to be deployed.

The diagram below illustrates this.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) ± the physical delivery of fibre optic cables directly to homes &
businesses replacing the existing copper lines
** Ethernet-to-the-Home (ETTH) ± a generalised fibre solution evolving from a circuit switched
model to an entirely packet switched model using Ethernet as opposed to Asynchronous Transfer
Mode (ATM)
*** Very High Speed Digital Subscriber Line 2 (VDSL2) ± an access technology using existing
copper lines which is the newest and most advanced standard of DSL broadband wireline
communications
**** Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line 2+ (ADSL2+) - an access technology using existing
copper lines that is able to extend the capability of basic ADSL by doubling the number of
downstream bits

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) launched its High Speed Broadband (HSBB)
Malaysia's first (Fibre To The Home) service, called µUniFiµ. TM¶s UniFi high
speed broadband packages comprises services of high speed Internet, video (IPTV), and
phone, with speeds of 5 Mbps, 10Mbps and 20Mbps.

UniFi heralds a new age of digital lifestyle with a faster, richer and more reliable online
experience. These UniFi is a bundled triple play service offering High Speed Internet, HyppTV
(IPTV) and Voice.
UniFi is offering 3 residential and 3 business packages.

¢ For residential VIP5 is RM149 a month, VIP10 is RM199 a month and VIP20 is RM249
a month.
¢ Each package comes with voice, different Internet speeds and either a basic or premium
HyppTV subscription.
¢ For businesses, BIZ5 is RM199 a month, BIZ10 is RM599 a month and BIZ20 is RM899
a month.
¢ Each package comes with attractive call plans, different Internet speeds and a host of
complimentary services.

Upon sign up, the customer will receive 4 pieces of equipment:

¢ Fiber Broadband Termination Unit (BTU), ie. Where connect the fiber optic cable into.
¢ WiFi router (D-Link, D-615 with custom firmware), which is plugged into the fiber BTU.
¢ Set-Top box for IPTV and VoD, which will plug into the WiFi router.
¢ DECT phone plugged into the Fiber BTU.

¢ The *BTU will be a terminating unit from the Access Network (TM Exchange) into
office building. This unit functions like a modem to allow access to office building. The
BTU translates the pulses of light that carry data over the fibre optic cables into electrical
signals that will be recognized by customer computer. Depending on customer property
type, may either get the BTU or VDSL2 modem

¢ * RG is the main gatekeeper for TM¶s UniFi service for office building. It controls
customer access to High Speed Internet (HSI), IPTV and other services that connect
through it. The RG provides up to 300Mbps* wireless connection with other 802.11n
wireless clients. This capability allows users to participate in real-time activities online,
such as video streaming, online gaming, real-time audio and many more.
¢ v

¢ * DECT Phone is a portable fixed line phone set for in-house mobility. It has the
capability to store phone books, ringtones, last-dialled numbers, redial and much more.
¢

STB is a digital information electronic device provided for household subscribers. It

¢ that provides streaming services through a television. It runs on an embedded real-time
operating system and provides the functions of remote configuration, remote monitoring,
and remote upgrade. HyppTV works on your TV with a Set Top Box which accesses
channels, subscription services and videos on demand. It is similar to cable TV, using a
broadband connection to the Internet instead of cable for the delivery of the video
services
¢ Step 1: Appointment
Appointment is made at the point of registration. Customer may choose they preferred
date and time for UniFi installation but please note that installation for FTTx (Fibre to the
Home or Office) is expected to take between 4-8 hours, and for VDSL2, 2-3 hours.

Step 2: Site Assessment

Upon arrival at customer home or office, TM technician will brief customer on the step-
by-step process of the entire installation.
For VDSL2, site assessment is much quicker since TM technician need only access the
building¶s MDF room and perform the necessary cabling there.
Note: VDSL2 - CUSTOMER existing Streamyx or Business Broadband access will be
disabled during this exercise.
¢ Step 3: Installation
it¶s time to complete the installation process. As part of this process, some minimal
drilling may be required. After laying the cables we will determine which modem is
suitable for customer home. Indoor installation requires more time as TM technician
needs to lay the internal fibre optic cable. Cables of sufficient length will be provided.
However, in cases where additional cable lengths are required, some minimal charges
will be incurred. To prevent unsightly wiring, wires and cables will be housed in proper
casings.

Step 4: Equipment Setup

After laying all the cables, it¶s time to connect the equipment. TM technician will first set
up the BTU followed by Premise Gateway, Set-top-Box (for Residential package only)
and DECT Phone. Once the equipment is tested and works properly, TM technician will
then show customer that all the services are in working order.

Step 5: Completion
Customer are required to sign-off a Service Acceptance Form (SAF) as part of the
process to complete the installation work. For a complete understanding of what TM
UniFi service is, please read the terms and conditions in customer service agreement
