Phoenix 2009
Event date: Saturday March 14, 2009
Location: Scarborough Civic Centre, 150 Borough Drive, Scarborough
The Always Nubian, Always Scarborough Association (A.N.A.S.A.) Collective and Schools
without Borders (SWB) are requesting your organization’s support by acting as a sponsor of its
upcoming youth designer event, Fashion Phoenix 2009.
Fashion Phoenix is scheduled for Saturday March 14, 2009 and will be premiered at the
Scarborough Civic Centre located at 150 Borough Drive, Scarborough.
SWB’s mission is to develop lasting learning communities through innovative youth-led initiatives
that facilitate youth engagement and responsible leadership. The A.N.A.S.A. Collective is a
youth-directed not-for-profit initiative administered by SWB.
As a part of our inaugural year, our organization wants to foster the creativity and innovative skills
of four young women from some of Scarborough’s at-risk neighbourhoods by providing them with
a forum in which they can showcase their talents as fashion designers. This production will not
only serve as a vehicle for these women to gain necessary skills in their field of interest, but also
allow them to network with some influential contacts in the fashion industry.
We see A.N.A.S.A. as a strategy to support and empower young women thus creating positive
changes in their communities. Through sharing resources in support of A.N.A.S.A.’s initiatives in
the community, we can begin to develop a safe environment where under-serviced women can
be aided in their growth and development from a holistic perspective. We believe strengthening
the capacity of A.N.A.S.A. will increase its ability to contribute to building healthy and positive
environments for young women.
Sincerely,
Julian Caspari

Additional Initiatives: Project Phoenix
Built around the Fashion Phoenix 2009 showcase, Project
Phoenix will explore pre-employment preparation for young
women of color from a holistic approach.
For seven months starting in March 2009 this pilot project aims
to define the needs of young women ages 15-24 primarily of Af-
rican ancestry from Scarborough with respect to their
employment goals. Building from this experience we will
determine the required structure of a long-term and sustainable
program.
