TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW
When Intel designed the advanced Pentium III and Pentium III Xeon processors, it
had more than just the desktop market in mind. With internal parity checked
registers, ECC-protected caches, built –in diagnostics, the ability to maintain L2
cache coherency with upto four processors and coupling the Pentium III and
Pentium Xeon with its 82450
BX/NX PCI chipsets, Intel provided Gateway with a compelling server architecture
that adapts to the needs of customer entering the mid range server market.
Clearly, the Intel architecture coupled with industry standard peripherals can offer
much lower costs than an architecture and peripherals designed for one of the lower
volume RISC processors.
Price has never been the biggest factor in buying a server, however. Performance –
especially reliability – comes first. The 450 MHz and 600 MHz Pentium III and Xeon
has integer performances highly competitive with RISC chips, and compiled with
competent memory, I/O, and mass storage subsystems, it does well as a database
server, specially testing with the industry standard TPC-C database server
benchmark.

These file server systems offer redundant design and implement reliability features
formally found only on more expensive systems. The multiple central Processing
units enable tremendous system throughput. The Gateway ALR Infor-manager
server management system will monitor CPU performance utilizing its integrated
sensors and will forewarn of potential problems before they lead to unexpected
downtime. In the unlikely event of a processor failure, the system automatically re-
direct traffic through the other CPUs, stepping up its performance to facilitate no
total performance drop.
The Gateway ALR Servers also offer features such as redundant power supplies with
load sharing features, separate power cords so you can power them from different
sources. Other options include high performance, hot – pluggable RAID, built-in
sensors to monitor operating temperatures and catch failure of critical components
(eg: fans and power supplies), with bundled Gateway ALR Intfor Manager software
which provide extensive and sophisticated abilities to notify system administrators
of problems. Gateway takes monitoring a step further with an architecture which
monitors drives for soft errors and checks for degrading functions in system
memory and the processor’s L2 cache for single bit errors.

Delivery and installing Computer systems at customer site and verifying they perform up to
specification will be done free of charge. Only Equipment and Software specified in the Invoice
shall be delivered.

ENVIRONMENT:

Air-conditioning is recommended but not essential for the operation of computer systems,
provided suitable humidity and temperature is maintained. Above all, a dust free environment is
essential.
A Stabilizer / Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS) is recommended for places with Power
Fluctuations / Failures.

provided free of charge until such repairs are completed.
