The genetic potential of the modern business birds have been improving every often. In layers the output from the same bird improved by 3% and in broilers around 10% in broiler birds in just the last two years. As summer is approaches, following management tips will help your birds to perform better in stress condition.

SUMMERS Introduction : The genetic potential of the modern business birds have been improving every often. In layers the output from the same bird improved by 3% and in broilers around 10% in broiler birds in just the last two years. Commercial Broiler: AGE IN DAYS BODY WEIGHT (Kg) IMPROVEMENT YEAR 2008-09 40 2.1 10% 2010-11 40 2.3 Commercial Layer: YEAR AGE IN HEN HOUSED EGGS IMPROVEMENT WEEKS (Nos) 2008-09 72 320 3% 2010-11 72 330
This improvement is considered to be majorly due to genetic
improvements with adequate support from advanced management, nutrition and biosecurity package. Better standards are expected to be achieved faster in coming days. Having said that we must remember that such vigorous pace of growth and production will always be accompanied by high levels of stress. Stress can occur due to high performance, ambient weather (Summer/Winter), handling (during de beaking, vaccination, Artificial Insemination in breeders, shifting the birds etc) or maximum day gain and even consumption of highly nutrient dense feed. As summer is approaches, following management tips will help your birds to perform better in stress condition: Before summer starts (Feb’11 - Mar’11) Managemental interventions 1. Make sure of thatching the roofs with a minimum of 2” grass materials, which can reduce around 2*C temp inside the shed. 2. Painting the inner face of roof with white paint – can reflect back the temperature 3. Check and ensure proper servicing of all pipelines (sprayer), pumps and power backup systems. 4. Wherever possible extend roof overhangs to offer additional protection to direct sunlight. Nutritional interventions Maintenance 1. Body weight maintenance : For breeders and Layers – weigh your birds for overweight (as in winter the feed consumption may be higher and because of it, birds may be over weight than standard body weight, this leads to heavy mortality in summer) Precautionary treatment : a) Feed restriction b) Provide ANICHOL L @ 40 ml/100 birds/ day for 10 days in breeders or 20 ml/100 birds/day for 10 days in layers – this will optimize the body weight of the birds
During peak summer (Mar’11 to July’11)
Managemental interventions 1. Provide foggers inside the shed or sprinklers over the roof. It is very important to ensure your power back up if you are operating foggers inside the shed. In case of deep litter broilers – Spray water over the birds during peak temperature. 2. Flush out the nipples every 30 minutes. In case of open tubs, change the water frequently. Use of mild water sanitizer is recommended 3. In case of deep litter birds, moisten the litter by spraying water with H2O2 – 100 Ml of H2O2 in 10 litr of water for 1000 sq.ft. 4. Feed the birds – either in early morning or late evening. Nutritional interventions Maintenance 1. Usage of Sodium Bi Carbonate in all type of birds 2. Usage of oil, as source of stable energy 3. Usage of Betaine – as osmoregulator (Dose – 300 gms/1000 Kg of Feed) 4. Usage of additional choline chloride 60% (Breeder – total requirement in summer – 2500 gms/1000 Kg of feed, Broilers – total requirement – 2200 gms/1000 Kg of feed and Layers – 1000 gms/1000 Kgs of feed) 5. Include coated Vitamin C in the diet @ 250 g per MT 6. Provide Aspirin @ 100 tablets/1000 birds in drinking water during noon hours, which reduces the body temperature of the birds and can reduce the mortality. 7. 10% additional usage of Vitamins, Minerals (Ex: Normal dosage of vitamin – 500 gm/1000 Kg of feed, add 550 gm/1000 Kg of feed, trace minerals – instead of 1 Kg add 1.1 Kg /1000 Kg of feed) 8. Depend on severity of dehydration – electrolytes can be used in drinking water. 9. By regular usage of Jubilant’s patented product – Encromix @ 250 gms/1000 Kg of feed, you can minimize mortality and production/performance loss by great extent. New Solution in Glucose Metabolism pathway: Encromix – Picolinic acid chelated Chromium premix. Encromix is a premix of highly bioavailable form of Trivalent Cr. It is world’s most widely used form of dietary chromium additive. Be it usage in humans or a wide range of livestock, Chromium tripicolinate has got the maximum number of authorizations from regulatory bodies. Encromix functions by a) Stimulating the activity of Insulin and allows more entry of glucose molecules in to the body cells. Along with glucose protein absorption has also been shown to improve b) Reducing levels of corticosteroids (stress hormones) in circulation. This helps in prevention of wasteful energy utilization for combating stress symptoms. c) Improving non specific immunity and protecting against all diseases. d) This action helps and ensure the performance in all kind of stress.
