Vocab:

resume: a document containing an applicant's (usually for a job) background, education, and former job
experience.

Document theme: A coordinated combination of a color scheme, font set, and effects.
Content control: an object that contains instructions for filling in text and graphics.

Placeholder text: Indicates where text can be typed.

Pattern: Insert patterns to soften the background color. They can be found by clicking on the Page
Layout tab, then on the Page Color button and selecting Fill Effects. In Fill Effects click on the Pattern
tab and select a pattern.

AutoComplete: A feature in which Word predicts the word or phrase you are typing and displays its
prediction in a ScreenTip. Ignore the prediction if it's wrong and it will go away.

Line break: Line breaks advance the insertion point to the beginning of the next physical line, ignoring
any paragraph formatting.

PDF: Stands for Portable Document Format, a file format created by Adobe Systems designed to be
viewed on systems which might lack the software used to create the original document.

Adobe Reader: A free program designed to view, navigate, and print PDF files. It can be downloaded
on Adobe's site. You cannot create PDFs with this, instead you need Adobe Acrobat or Word.

XPS: XML Paper Specification, a file format created by Microsoft designed to be viewed on systems
which might lack the software used to create the original document. Microsoft includes a XPS Viewer
on most Windows installations. It is possible to create XPS files with Word.

HTML: Stand for Hypertext Markup Language, a set of codes that internet browsers can interpret. Not
all of Word's formatting is supported by the format.
– A single file Web page format saves all of the components of the Web page in a single file that
has the .mht extension.
– The Web Page format saves some of the components of the Web page in a folder separate from
the web page.
– The filtered Web Page format saves the file in Web page format and reduces the file size by
removing specific Microsoft Office formats.

A template is similar to a form with prewritten text.


A resume usually contains the applicant's educational background with job experience.
