This caricature clearly portrays the cruel social reality during the industrial revolution. Subjugating |

the poor, or the proletarians as laborers, the capitalists indulged themselves in an abundance of
luxuries at the top of the social pyramid. The cartoon depicted the British capitalist as lavish
individuals who did not understand the pain and efforts behind the source of their affluence ± the
proletarians¶ hard work. On the ³bottom´ hand, the proletarians were portrayed as mostly kids and
elders, who were extraordinarily thin. The cartoon¶s overall theme is presented in a very clear
manner that the proletarians were suffering from Bourgeois subjugation.
