ABSTRACT

Microsoft Silverlight is a web browser plugin that provides support for rich
internet applications such as animation,vector graphics and audio-video playback.
Silverlight competes with products such as Adobe Flash, Adobe Flex, Adobe Shockwave,
JavaFX, and Apple QuickTime. Now in beta-testing, version 2.0 brings improved
interactivity and support for .NET languages and development tools.

Silverlight was developed under the codename Windows Presentation Foundation


/Everywhere (WPF/E). It is compatible with multiple web browser products used on
Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X operating systems. Mobile devices, starting with
Windows Mobile 6 and Symbian (Series 60) phones, will also be supported. A third-party
free software implementation named Moonlight is under development to bring
compatible functionality to GNU/Linux.

Silverlight provides a retained mode graphics system, similar to WPF and


integrates multimedia, graphics, animations and interactivity into a single runtime. It is
being designed to work in concert with XAML and is scriptable with JavaScript. XAML
can be used for marking up the vector graphics and animations. Textual content created
with Silverlight would be more searchable and indexable than that created with Flash as it
is not compiled, but represented as text (XAML). Silverlight can also be used to create
Windows Sidebar gadgets for Windows Vista.

Silverlight supports playback of WMV, WMA and MP3 media content across all
supported browsers without requiring Windows Media Player, the Windows Media
Player ActiveX control or Windows Media browser plugins. Because Windows Media
Video 9 is an implementation of the SMPTE VC-1 standard, Silverlight also supports
VC-1 video, though still only in an ASF file format. Furthermore, the Software license
agreement says VC-1 is only licensed for the "personal and non-commercial use of a
consumer". Silverlight does not support playback of H.264 video.
Silverlight makes it possible to dynamically load XML content that can be
manipulated through a DOM interface, a technique that is consistent with conventional
Ajax techniques. Silverlight exposes a Downloader object which can be used to
download content, like scripts, media assets or other data, as may be required by the
application. With version 2.0, the programming logic can be written in any .NET
language, including some common dynamic programming languages like Ruby and
Python.

applications can be written in any .NET programming language. As such, any
development tools which can be used with .NET languages can work with Silverlight,
provided they can target the Silverlight CoreCLR for hosting the application, instead of
the .NET Framework CLR. Microsoft has positioned Microsoft Expression Blend
versions 2.0 and 2.5 for designing the UI of Silverlight 1.0 and 2 applications
respectively. Visual Studio 2008 can be used to develop anddebug Silverlight
applications. To create Silverlight projects and let the compiler target CoreCLR, Visual
Studio 2008 requires the Silverlight Tools for Visual Studio which is available as a beta
release

ABSTRACT
A brain-machine interface is a communication system that does not depend on the
brains normal output pathways of peripheral nerves and muscles. It is a new
communication link between a functioning human brain and the outside world.These are
electronic interfaces with the brain, which has the ability to send and receive signals from
the brain. BMI uses brain activity to command, control, actuate and communicate with
the world directly through brain integration with peripheral devices and systems. The
signals from the brain are taken to the computer via the implants for data entry without
any direct brain intervention. BMI transforms mental decisions and/or reactions into
control signals by analyzing the bioelectrical brain activity.

While linking the brain directly with machines was once considered science
fiction, advances over the past few years have made it increasingly viable. It is an area of
intense research with almost limitless possibilities. The human brain is the most complex
physical system we know of, and we would have to understand its operation in great
detail to build such a device. An immediate goal of brain-machine interface study is to
provide a way for people with damaged sensory/motor functions to use their brain to
control artificial devices and restore lost capabilities. By combining the latest
developments in computer technology and hi-tech engineering, paralyzed persons will be
able to control a motorized wheel chair, computer painter, or robotic arm by thought
alone. In this era where drastic diseases are getting common it is a boon if we can
develop it to its full potential. Recent technical and theoretical advances, have
demonstrated the ultimate feasibility of this concept for a wide range of space-based
applications. Besides the clinical purposes such an interface would find immediate
applications in various technology products also.

ABSTRACT

Holographic information storage systems using Collinear


Technologies is proposed by Optware Corporation, Yokohama, Kanagawa,
Japan, and in which the information and reference beams are modulated
coaxially by the same spatial light modulator (SLM). With this unique
configuration, the optical pickup can be designed as small as the DVDs and can
be placed on one side of the recording disk. In a Holographic Versatile Disc
(HVD) structure, the preformatted metadata reflective layer is used for the
focus/tracking servo and reading address information, and the dichroic mirror
layer is used for detecting holographic recording information without interfering
with the preformatted information. A two-dimensional (2-D) digital page data
format is used, and the shift-multiplexing method is employed to increased
recording density of HVD. Experimental and theoretical studies suggest that the
holographic material is very effective to increased recording density of the
system. As the servo technology is being introduced to control the objective lens
to be maintained precisely to the disk in the recording and the reconstructing
process, a vibration isolator is no longer necessary. HVD will be compatible with
existing disk storage systems, like CD and DVD, and enable us to expand its
applications into other optical information storage systems
