INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing the Hollow Sun Vintage Samplers Collection. It
features some of the most popular and well known samples from the two most
desirable sampling instruments of the late 70s and early 80s, namely the
Fairlight Iix and the Emulator EII.

This collection has been carefully scripted to provide as much flexibility as

possible with these sounds and this short manual will give you a guide to
operation.

Enjoy the sounds and have fun tweaking them!

At the bottom of each panel are two tabs which select different operating areas.
Click on the tabs as required.

MASTER PAGE

Here, you can set parameters releated to velocity, keyboard range and tuning. It
is functionally identical for both samplers in the collection.

VELOCITY
VELOCITY CURVE Select from a variety of different velocity curves including
a fixed velocity … which would be authentic.

VEL > VOL Set velocity sensitivity to taste with this control.

INPUT
RANGE Set the keyboard range for the selected instrument. Click
LEARN and play a low and then a high note on your MIDI
controller to set the range.

TRANSPOSE You can transpose the instrument with this control.

TUNING
COARSE Tune the instrument in semitone steps.

FINE Fine tune the instrument in cents.

PITCHBEND
DOWN Set the interval (in semitones) for downwards pitch bend.

UP Set the interval (in semitones) for upwards pitch bend.

 CONTROL PANEL PAGE

This is the meat and potatoes of all sounds’ operation, where you can quite
radically change the basic selected sound. The panels are identical for every
sound and the controls are:

LEVEL
LEVEL Sets the level of the sound.

Although this seems unecessary and is usually set at

0.0dB it can be useful when using the TONE section to
compensate for level changes that can occur there.

TONE
TONE You can modify the basic tone of the sound here. Fully
counter clockwise, the filter is disabled but with this one
simple control, you can set a variety of different timbres.

LOCUT This is a simple highpass filter that allows you to ‘thin’ the
sound out by removing low frequencies. Fully counter
clockwise, the filter is disabled.

HICUT This is a simple lowpass filter and allows you to make the
sound progressively mellower. Fully clockwise, the filter
is disabled.

Between all three filters, it is possible to create a remarkable variety of different

sounds, even more so when used in combination with each other.

Please note, however, that their effectiveness varies according to the sound you
are using.

 EFFECTS
DELAY Set the level of the delay effect here.

REVERB Set the level of the reverb here.

ENVELOPE
ATTACK Set the attack time for all layers here.

RELEASE Set the release time for all layers here.

 USING THIS WITH THE FREE KONTAKT PLAYER
You CAN use this collection with the free Kontakt Player and it will play and
work perfectly but with the following restrictions:

• There is a time limit. This varies according to the version of the Player
you have.

• You can edit the sounds to your requirements exactly as though you
have a full working copy of Kontakt but you cannot save any edits or
tweaks you make.

• When the Player times out, you can restart it immediately and continue
(although you will, of course, have to reload everything).

To enjoy Hollow Sun’s Kontakt sample library to its full, it is recommended you
buy a full version of it.
