Objectives of Paul’s Treak 12 week placement( Jan-March 2021)

Drawn up in first couple of weeks by Dara and Paul:

1. Development of lesson plans and curriculum development plans

2. How to teach effectively in 2021 which is related to the S.O.P. guideline from the Cambodian Ministry of
Education to protect from Covid ie wear masks, hygiene with soap etc, social distancing etc
3. Develop ideas about online teaching resources and using online teaching platforms such as Quiziz,,
Quizlet or Kahoot.
4. How to use computers in the Treak community lab to teach English

Subsequently the primary and major objective following the 4 weekly review meeting on January 28th and
Dianne’s email ( Jan 29th 2021):

‘Paul outlined the work done so far, starting with lesson observations and feedback, then lesson planning and
now working towards whole-school planning, including time management.  Dara and Paul agreed on the
importance of carrying the whole Treak team along with them, and about the positive contribution Viphou is
making to discussions.

Michael (following discussions with Dara) outlined their hopes for the rest of the placement.  Treak's motto
is Creating Opportunities not Dependency,  and their Mission Statement expands on this.  (Mission
Statement attached).

They would like to work on the development of a whole school action plan with the motto and mission statement
at its heart.  As a starting point they would like to have some sort of visual chart with the mission
statement at the top and all the various components underneath in some sort of logical heirarchy, rather
like an organisational chart (this is a concept all Cambodians are familiar with due to the heirarchical
nature of the culture).  The plan would encompass all aspects of work done at Treak so that Dara and
Viphou clearly understand how all the components fit together and relate to each other.  This will help
them to identify priority actions, set targets, and then disseminate this to the staff so the staff can better
understand how their work contributes towards meeting the aims of the plan.  It will also help Dara to
ensure that volunteers contribute in the most beneficial way towards these aims, and help him assess
the merits of any new ideas volunteers may suggest.

The plan would build from work done in the classroom up to work done at management level.  The aim is not to
create something onerous, but a simple, coordinated structure which is easily understood and easily
reviewed.  (In practice, what we are looking for is the plan flowing down from the Mission Statement, into
strategy/policy, then management/admin, and then into lesson/programme design to ensure that what
happens in the classrooms is guided by the overall aims.)’
